War of the Greys: Lordaeron [Open RP]

"Lord Fordiring, you have a visitor." says the crusader. Tirion Fordring turns from his advisory and faces the messenger, "I wasn't expecting a visitor." The crusader nods, "No sire, but it says there is dire news." The paladin commander looks sternly, "It? What do you mean, it?" The crusader stands aside and allows a cloaked figure to approach the paladin.

News of the visitor quickly engulfed Heartglen as word of a robed stranger was accompanied by guards to the town keep. Many were curious as who could the stranger be. The only ones that kept themselves hidden were the Forsaken when they came to visit. Seeing as Heartglen is dedicated to eradicating the undead, one would understand their caution. The figure is escorted into the keep and the guards return to their posts, manning the guard towers and barricades that protect this gladed village from the Scourge in the wilds.

"I apologize Lord crusader for this interuption, but I have news of which I feel you should be familiar." The figure pauses, "For your ears only I fear." Tirion gazes at the figure, "Any business of mine can be shared, I have no fears." The figure chuckles, "The message is from my master, he wishes this to be a private discussion." The paladin places his hand on his sword, Ashbringer that lays across his back, "Who would that be?"

The figure peers from under it's black hood and blue eyes with a mist surrounding them appears, only within the paladin's sight. "Let us say, from an old friend." Tirion's eyes widen, Bolvar! The figure smiles, "Yes, I think you get it now. Shall we?" The figure motions with his hand, implying for the rest of the occupants to leave. "Leave us." says the crusader lord.

The plans go deserted and the conversations cease as the guardsmen and paladins leave reluctantly. When the doors close and the keep's throne room goes silent the figure removes his hood. A skull with misty blue eyes watches the paladin. It has long black hair that stems from the skulls top and cracks that carress the sides. "I am Darced the Damncaller, and I call at the behest my lord. The Lich King."

Heartglen's citizens notice the skies go dark and wonder what's going on. They wander out of their homes and take break from their labors to watch as an early dusk approaches. They look up, but not to a pink and orange sky, but to a Necropolis, hovering over them. Screams erupt all over Heartglen as undead rise from the ground and begin to slaughter the townspeople. Guardsmen rush to the invaders, but are quickly overwhelmed.

"I trust you understand my being here, Tirion?" The paladin nods, "Aye, but we will not go down so easily. With the Light at our side, we will triumph against you, just as we did those years ago!" He unsheathes the Ashbringer, "Then I fear, you do not understand why I am here." Darced holds up a tome that brims with dark power, "The Light, is what stands in this world's way. It is time you moved aside and let us do what we do best." The paladin charges Darced who stands motionless, peering from the book, "Fighting fire with fire."

    Warchief's Command Board/ Hero's Call

All able bodied men and women of Azeroth! The undead Scourge have amassed a massive invasion force and has made it's move against our freedom! Lordaeron is under siege and the local forces struggle to resist the juggernaut of the renewed undead armies. All who can wield a sword are to report Andorhal where a temporary ceasefire has been declared. You must work together to stop this invasion, thus Horde and Alliance members must set aside their differences for the betterment of us all. You will fight alongside the Argent Crusade as a cohesive unit under the command of Paladin Lord Tirion Fordring. May the Light guide us to swift and just victory!

    -Tirion Fordring

Velexis looked at the notice board while she was walking through the city of Stormwind, a place not regularily visited by Blood elfs, but due to her position in the Argent Crusade, she had nothing to fear from the inhabitants. "I just barely returned from Northrend. Can't they give us a break?" She whispered in a low voice.
She quickly picked up her gear, which included her weapons, scrolls and cloak and headed for the gate. Tied outside the gate was a fierce Frostwyrm, her favorite mount as it reminded her of the living's victory over the Lich king shortly before the Cataclysm hit. She quickly untied it and headed for Andorhal, a place she had planned on visiting anyways only a couple of days later, but under more peaceful conditions. As she arrived, she took notice of the Necropolis floating over Heartglen only a couple minutes of flight more north.

As she landed outside Andorhal on it's northern side, the crusaders stationed outside regocnized her and quickly told her where Tirion was, she kept her cloak on, but threw the hood back, letting her blond hair flow free, or as free as it can in a pony tail.

((Why thanks! If anyone object's, I'll happily pull myself out later))

As a large cheetah crested the mountainous slope separating The Hinterlands and Western Plaugelands, the first thing it saw in the distance was a large Scourge necropolis, one much too close to be Ebon Hold. The cheetah paused for a moment, before shapeshifting into the form of a large Tauren, dressed in full regalia of a druid ready for battle, along with a large staff and satchel. Jorn turned to look down and called out to another cheetah about twenty feet down the slope. "Chris.... It is as we feared, as we were told. The Scourge have struck again." As the second cheetah makes it next to Jorn, it too transforms. This one shapeshifts into a dark Worgen, dressed in different, darker druid robes, with a menacing looking black and red polearm. "That it is, so let us hurry to Andorhal and lend them a hand in killing these unnatural vermin."
Chris quickly changed form once again, this time into the form of a black feathered hawk, and quickly flies down the slope. Jorn grumbles something about hating small forms before changing into a similar, brown feathered hawk and follows his younger friend. The two veer off towards the nearby town, seemingly brimming with the activity of an army preparing for war. As they land, they question a nearby paladin to direct then towards Highlord Tirion Fordring, and then begin making their way through the busy crusaders towards the Highlord's location.

((Sorry for not ntoicing this. I haven't been on in a while, haha!))

Darren, wandering aimlessly through Stormwind in boredom, happened to notice a new posting on the Command Board. Curious, the young mage stopped and read it carefully. "Interesting," he murmured to himself. "Good thing I don't really owe my allegiance to any faction. Even if I won't get paid for this, it still counts as mercenary work, to an extent."
Settled, he made a few trips to a couple select shops, picking up reagents and other miscellaneous items he may require later. Once he had everything, he made his way over to the flight master and handed him a small sack of coins. "I'll need a gryphon, if you wouldn't mind." The Flight Master nodded, handing him the reins to a snowy gryphon. Stroking the beast's neck softly, Darren secured his sword to his waist, casted a few armour spells on himself swiftly, then hopped in to the saddle, grabbing the reins. "Ready to go for a ride?" he asked, his normal enthusiasm present. The gryphon snorted loudly, as if sharing Darren's excitement, and took off.
They flew for some time, the steady beat of the gryphon's powerful wings the only noise as Darren's thoughts tore through his mind like a whirlwind. A massive Scourge invasion? This is possibly one of the dumbest things I have ever done. I even swore, a long tiem ago, I'd have nothing to do with the undead. And, here I am, on my way to Andorhal, about to fight an entire army of them. The worse part? I'm not even going to get paid for it. Sighing to himself, he held the reins tightly in his left hand, and opened his right hand, palm facing up. He conjured up a randomized image from his past, and foudn himself looking upon his cousin's face; the only face he'd known after the rest of his family was murdured. He felt a sudden surge of hatred for the Horde. They may have turned away from their past, but there are still many orcs that worship demons and make sacrifices to them. Not only that, but with Garrosh Hellscream as the Horde's new 'acting warchief,' they've become worse than they were with Thrall. I much preferred a leader to that savage group that actually cared about peace in Azeroth, than a war-hungry, arrogant, hot-headed monster like Hellscream. It's a wonder his father was a war-hero . . . That's all he cared about. Peace meant nothing to him. Only bloodlust. It seems his son has decided to carry on his father's tradition.
Darren dismissed the image, shaking his head. Either way. They're gone, and I have to deal with it. Something I've been wanting to do for years now, in fact. He wasn't entirely sure about what exactly he was going to do, but he had a few ideas; crazy, although, but still ideas.
Suddenly, the young mage blinked, realizing they were in the Plaguelands now, once a lively part of Lordaeron. Narrowing his eyes against the sudden mist, he banked the gryphon to the right, lowering them until they were below the fog, and had a clear view of the dark lands before them. Farther ahead sat Andorhal, overrun with Scourge and necromancers. Thinking of that term in his head, the hatred Darren held for the Horde paled in comparison to the fury he faced when dealign with those that resurrected and controlled the dead. Bastards, he thought to himself, growling deep in the back of his throat. They flew over Andorhal, and Darren spotted the Argent Crusade's camp, where a significantly-noticeable Frostwyrm was tied up. Curiosity overriding anger, Darren landed as far away from the Frostwyrm as possible, tying up the gryphon's reins to a nearby post. Pulling his hood up over his head, the young mage entered the camp, and approached a Crusader. "Do you know where I can find Highlord Fording?" he asked, resting his right hand on the hilt of his sheathed sword, searching the Crusader's eyes with his own.

Aldean of the Grey was flying over the Hillsbrad Foothills toward Andorhal. He was hardened by his recent expedition to Northrend and was relieved to experience such warm weather in comparison. He was not alone; with him flew a small group of Grey family warriors. Some of the elite of Stormwind's skyguard they felt it necessary to represent their clan in Lordaeron seeing as they could be there faster than anyone. Even the Kor'kron.Aldean watched as the pines shifted below and awaited some sign of activity, he was eager for Scourge blood. The silence of the flyers was nearly broken when a caravan of Forsaken catapults became clear. They were rolling north, towards Strahnbrad. Of course, we have to fight with those Light damned bastards."My lord, we're apporaching Andorhal." The gryphons glided upwards, over the mountains of southern Lordaeron. "Aye, I see that." said Aldean. They pass the mountains and descend towards the Western Plaguelands where Andorhal came into view. Finally. They land inside of Andorhal's walls and assemble with the Argent Crusaders that were moving into formation. Aldean walked past them and followed a cobblestone walkway to an Argent captain. "Sir paladin, where can I find Tirion? Me and the Greys are here to answer his call and I'd like to ask him about the situation."

Velexis noticed as the others arrived, 2 druid, worgen and tauren by the looks of their bird forms. A mage, Dalaran scholarship if I'm not mistaken, and Aldean. Velexis walked over to the mage, "never seen a frostwyrm before, or just dislike 'em?"

( Something I'm not understanding in all of this; When does this take place? I see Tirion wielding the Ashbringer, yet there's non-dormant Scourge? If Bolvar is controlling the Scourge, wouldnt the more powerful lieutenants have orange eyes instead of blue? Even moreso, if Bolvar is doing his job, why would there be hostile Scourge altogether? I've read the summary, but this bit just isn't made clear to me. Depending on the answer I'll decide if I want to partake in this, because it does seem interesting. )

((This would be modern time, but think of this as fan fiction. Like an alternate route that Azeroth goes through in light of certain events. I suppose you just have to jump and follow us and take the idea with a grain of salt. Mainly cause staying in the same timeline is rather monotomous when we can create our own based upon the current lore, even to the extent of stretching it. I saw a lot of possibilities this way including letting Sargeras into our worls through a mortal guise. (See War of the Greys Alterac for that :P) I do hope you join us sir, we could use all the help we can get if we're to make this a massive RP.

I didn't think to make the Scourge's eyes orange, I think I'll do that. Also, perhaps his occupation requires him to do this, hmmmm. We'll just to see how he will explain his actions. Any more questions please ask!))

( Aye, I did quirk an eyebrow a bit when I saw Sargeras reborn. But if you put it like that... more liberties due to an alternative timeline you say? Oho, I know exactly what to bring to this party, in that case. )

Burning lungs. Each breath intake a painful spike.
Bile retching up from the throat. Bones creaking. Muscles aching.
Harsh breathing. Can't see. Must keep running.
    Must keep running.
Why am I moving so slowly...
    Don't stop.
Can't move my arms... time is slowed.. muddy. Can't blink. Can't think.
    Naxxramas? Can't see.
Don't look behind you don't look behind you don't look

    Must keep running.

Sudden pain. It struck my spine. My armor is broken.
    Must keep running. So tired.
    My legs don't work.
    Don't look...

    It's pulling me in.

Chonar awoke with a shrill gasp, eyes wide. Blindly striking around him, he reached for his mace and axe in a rush of panic. The grip on his weapons calmed him slightly, allowing him to come down from his fear-induced adrenalin rush. The old mountainking sat up in his bed, trying to catch his breath while his heart drummed in his ears. Resting his weapons in his lap, he reached out for his hankerchief and dabbed his forehead dry.

That nightmare again. That accursed nightmare again. Quiet you, 'ol ticker... I will not shuffle off this mortal coil by ways of a heart attack.

His good eye got used to the darkness as he took in his surroundings. The muffled scent of smooth stone and coal. The distant musical chime of repetitive blacksmith hammering. The large bedroom chamber filled with prized possessions of endeavors and encounters long passed... Memorabilia to remind him of the past when his own memory would begin to falter. He was in the safety of his home. Ironforge. Kingdom beneath the mountain.

Sighing with a shiver from his lungs, he fell back asleep, clutching his weapons.

    -----

"..and finally, thane o' th' Thunderbeard clan." Thargas Anvilmar spoke.
"Present." Chonar lifted a pair of fingers.
"Only in body, yer spirit's still asleep!" One of the other thanes guffawed.
Chonar grumbled at the other mountainking. The bags under his eyes spoke volumes of his restless sleep.

The deep purple gemstones that encrusted the inner walls of Old Ironforge shimmered with their typical luminescence as the Dwarven Clan leaders conveined. It was part ritual, part meeting, yet it usually ended with most of the Thanes sharing and discussing the various favorites amongst ale brands. The thanes were seated around a large table, in view of the diamond, crystalline form of Magni Bronzebeard. Unfortunatly, with the Council of Three Hammers in power, the mountainkings saw most of their discussions and decisions moot. Back when Magni ruled, their council was invaluable. The Council of the Three Hammers however, listened to indiviual advisors, one for each Major Clan; Bronzebeard, Wildhammer, and Dark Iron. Still, they could make decisions for their own clans, which is what they did.

"May th' spirits o' our ancestors give us th' patience t'find wisdom, th' wisdom t'gain strength, and th' strength ta afford patience. I declare th' Council o' the Thanes begun." Thargas Anvilmar spoke before sitting down.
"Hear hear." Came the reply from the other thanes.
The meeting went as it always had. The usual topics came up. Troll incursions in the homelands, dealing with the unease within Ironforge due to the inclusion of the Dark Iron clan, sending aid to the dwarven provinces struck by the Cataclysm, the Forsaken war efforts reaching Arathi, and so forth. By the end of the meeting, most thanes were already inebriated.
"..and that's when I bought th' steed a harlot!" One of the thanes finished his joke.
Chonar woke up with a startled grunt as one of the laughing thanes slammed him on the back.
Thargas cleared his throat. "Heh. Finally, there's th' matter 'o Highlord Fordring's call to arms. Seems th' Scourge is actin' up again, somethin' big up north in Lordaeron."
One of the Thanes gestured dismissivly. "Th' Crusade kin 'andle 'emselves! Last time we sent a representative against th' Scourge up there, 'e ended up as Kel'thuzad's puppet!"
Thargas nodded. "Alas, Old Korth'azz, may 'is soul find rest."
The thanes nodded, mumbling amongst eachother. None of them were particulary fond of the idea of following the lost Thane's footsteps.

Chonar stroked his beard as he was lost in thought. The recurring nightmare had its' ties to Naxxramas, he was sure of it. If anything, he could perhaps make amends for his first incursion into Naxxramas. He lost a couple good men in there, so perhaps... Perhaps that was it. Guilt.

Thargas grumbled. "I'll send th' word. We 'ave our own problems, and th' Crusade is well supplied and manned."
Chonar blinked his good eye and looked up. "I'll go."
The other thanes turned towards the greying dwarf.
"Surely we 'ave a contingent of riflemen tae spare. I'll lead them meself."
Thargas looked at Chonar. "With all due respect, Thunderbeard. Yer fightin' days are an inspiration tae young folk... Ye should leave the past to rest and enjoy th' winter o' yer days."
Chonar already stood up. "Me winter is haunted by the past already. Get me my contingent, Thargas." The old dwarf muttered.

    "Aye."

Darren cocked his head at the paladin as she approached. "I'm part disgusted by him and part intrigued. I must ask, though; what in the blazes would possess a paladin to utilize such a foul creature for transportation?" Darren shifted his gaze back to the Frostwyrm. "If you were a death knight, or any other mortal being of Azeroth, I guess I could see it. But a paladin? It doesn't make sense to me, to be honest with you."

((Lol, the Scourge were never known to be bright. I wonder what the Lich King's cooked up this time. If we have to fight another abomination, Darren may have to cause him to . . . erhm . . . combust. > ))

((With flaming abomination chunks flying everywhere? Yes, I fully support this idea))

The two druids, unable to gain an audience with the busy Highlord, decided to make their way over to the others responding to the Highlords call. A paladin and a mage by the looks of it. As they approached the pair, they noticed a squad of humans, warriors from Stormwind it seemed from their looks, arrive at the camp. Reaching the paladin and mage, Jorn raised his hand. "Hail, friends, and may the eternal sun shine upon thee. What brings you here to fight against the Scourge?"
