Gathering Profession > Crafting Profession for raiding?!

Hi guys,

I just had a little discussion with a guild mate - his opinion was that occasionally a gathering profession is better for raiding than a crafting profession. Could you guys name any situation where this is true? Is there any specc./... where this could be like this? And is it true, that an alchy has a chance to gain more that +80 of a main stat?

He's wrong.
Simple as that.

Craft proffs give you a boost in a certain area (most of which you can pick to suit you the best) while gathering just forces you to stick with stamina/crit/haste (on a cooldown).
If you really want to min/max your character always pick dual craft proffs, if your just casual gatherer+craft or even dual gatherer works just fine.

Alchemy only has the 'free flask' (which grants 80 currently) or double flask duration perk, the only profession that can go past 80 is JC with 81 which is going away with MoP.

Well, herbalism's Lifeblood is an excellent haste boost. However, I still prefer crafting professions.
