Difference of Radeon HD 7870 and 7950

Hi guys, is there a big perfomance difference of those two Graphic Cards?

Sapphire HD 7870 in EBAY.IT is costing 230euro while the Sapphire HD 7950 is costing 300euro.

For games like WOW, GW2 and stuff like that, the 7870 is enough to run it on max?

    Thanks

more than enough if installed in the right system. Your CPU and Memory make a difference as well.

I run a 7870 with a 3570k, eats up everything I threw at it. Hope you have a good cpu. Wanna share this quick story- I originaly was going to get a 7950 at microcenter but I didn't realize I needed gas and end up with a 7870 to save money, I'm pretty happy with it

7950 is pretty decently ahead of the 7870 in games where the gpu matters a lot, think FPS games like BF3, probably a good idea for GW2 etc, but wow 6850 or 7950 wont really matter much imo.

More than likely to run everything on max at 60fps at 1080p, Will choke on higher resolutions though.

    i5-3570k @ 4.4ghz - R9-280X @ 1150Mhz on stock voltage - 8GB of DDR3 Ram @ 1866Mhz

Your seriously under estimating the power of the 7870 and 7950, 2560x1440 will also play fine, maybe not in BF3 and Crysis but itll be fine @ that res on most games outside the MetroCrysisbattlefield3.

WoW almost bores my poor 7870 to death. :/

BTW WoW needs a good CPU way more than a GPU. Put in a 3570K and even an old 8800GTX is bored by WoW.

    I got a i5 3570k at 4,4GHz and atm a Radeon HD 5770 which is running GW2 on medium-high

but the Radeon 7950 is 300euro, 70$ more expensive

Again, You can easily run anything on ultra (current 2012games) with a 3570k and a 7870 unless you go with a multi monitor setup.

This is true to some extent, even my 6950 will play WoW @ ultra on 3 monitors. Yea yea I unlocked it, it's basically a 6970.

WoW is a VERY old game with very modest demands on hardware, so almost every modern graphics card can run it very well even UNDERCLOCKED.

I have got a Gigabyte Nividia GTX 580 on an ASUS P5Q Deluxe Mobo. My CPU is an Intel Yorkfield Extreme QX 9650 Socket LGA 775, from back in 2008, originally cost abt $1K.

I am able to run WoW at ULTRA settings, 1920X1080, with my CPU UNDERCLOCKED at 1.78/2.68 GHz, and my GPU also UNDERCLOCKED at GPU clock 684 MHz and Memory Clock 820 MHz. I get about 48 to over 170 FPS depending on the circumstances.

Other specs: Windows XP, 4 GB of RAM.

IYour link convinced me that they are pretty comparable. There is not one measurement that the 7870 is not within 20% of the performance of the 7950, and most are within 10%. Paradoxically, there are even some comparisons where the 7870 is BETTER than the 7950, according to that chart (Skyrim & Starcraft II frame rates). That kinda shocked me.

Try comparing the 7870 to the 7850, for kicks. You'll see the performance of the 7870 is much closer to the 7950 than the 7850!

At stock settings you're absolutely right, they're pretty comparable and in many games you probably wouldn't notice. Keep in mind though that the 7950 is known to have monster overclocking potential, so you're likely to get longer use out of it over the others.
