[Priest] MoP Fix My DPS Thread

    Purpose of this thread:

    - To assist people who have made a considered effort into their damage yet are struggling to meet their expected numbers. If you have exhausted other avenues and don't know what to do for further improvement this is the thread for you.
    - To allow experienced players to share their oozing nuggets of wisdom with those eager to learn. Everyone who has a solution to share is welcome to contribute.
    - To discuss alternate approaches to ability usage or gearing, just make sure you have good sources of information before making claims. If you want to suggest something that might be controversial that is fine, just make sure you have information or can link to information that will back up your claims.
    - Remember when responding to people that they are looking for help and keeping your advice phrased respectfully would be appreciated

    Before Posting:

    - Make sure you've read the relevant sticky guide Priest DPS Guide by Yvaelle and understand the basics of preparing your spec. This thread isn't for teaching you how to gem, glyph, enchant correctly or of the basics of stat priority and rotation usage.
    - It also wouldn't hurt for you to give a read through some of the other responses in the thread. People often have very similar issues when it comes to dps and a response given to someone else might have the info you needed.

    What to Post:

    - General gear level and expectations in raids. Don't have people trawl armorys and parses for these details when they can be given up front.
    - Your problem in as much detail as is possible. Is it specific to an individual boss? in particular phases or situations? (AoE, Multi-dotting, Execute phase, movement, etc.) or just a general patchwerk style low dps problem? The more detail you can give the more helpful answers we can provide.
    - Any resources you have which can detail the problem are useful. World of Logs parses links are especially helpful.

Please post this template at the top of your post, and fill in the details you have. Make sure you post behind the [/B] tags.

    HTML Code:
    [B]Item Level[/B]
    [B]Expectations:[/B]
    [B]Armory Link:[/B]
    [B]Worldoflogs Link:[/B]

    What Not to Post:

    - A question that is blatantly answered in the stickied guide.
    - Stealth bragging damage logs.
    - "How to reforge" questions. Use Mr. Robot or Wowreforge instead, or the appropriate stickies found in this forum.
    - "Is Gear A > Gear B?" queries those are best simulated using SimC or CharDev on your own character to find a personal solution. Situational gearing such as trinkets for specific bosses or the merits of tier bonuses are fine to ask.

Simple guide to using Mr. Robot

    - Click the "Pick a Character" button and enter your Character name and realm.
    - Either use the default state weights if you like those or if you want to go to the "Stat Weight Editor" tab on the bottom right of the page.
    - For Hit/Spirit make sure whatever value you put in will reflect what you want your hit rating to be. For example if you don't want to lose Int and SP but are willing to trade Haste for hit make sure the value you put for Hit and Spirit is lower than Int/SP but higher/equal to Haste. Or if you don't want to trade Haste for hit make sure the value for Hit/Spirit you put in is less than Haste.
    - If after a certain amount of Haste you want to start stacking a different stat in the "soft cap" box enter the percentage in decimal form (so 30% would be 0.30) and then in the "soft-capped weight" box enter the weight you want Haste to have after that point (so if you want to stack Mastery after that point set the value to just less than what Mastery is).
    - Click "Optimize" and see what Mr. Robot recommends.

All those examples are just examples to illustrate how to make Mr. Robot work for you, and not recommendations.

(If someone wants to PM me a short explanation of how to get the most out of wowreforge pm it to me and I'll add it)

    Hey!

I guess i'll be the first one to reply on this thread :-P
well, well, let's get on with it..

    Item Level 467
    Expectations: more dps
    Armory Link: h#ttp:/#/eu.#battle#.#net/wow#/en/character/shat#tered-hand/Amian/advanced
    Worldoflogs Link: ht#tp:/#/#worldoflogs.#com#/reports/25ca7lu#rbdw3ti7c/details/12/

Generally what i'm wondering about is, why my dps is lower than the top dps priests, what is it i'm missing? Is it wrong to pursue the haste-cap as i've done? Have I sacrificed too much intellect?
Any other thoughts would also be a LOT appreciated.

PS. Since i'm newly registered I couldn't post links.. So if you'd like to look at them, please do erase all of the hashtags(#) from it, to make it work.

    Working links for Amian:
    http://worldoflogs.com/reports/25ca7...7c/details/12/
    http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/characte...Amian/advanced

    http://worldoflogs.com/reports/25ca7...=20043&e=20448

So just looking at The Stone Guard kill (I'll try to get some time to checkout Feng later too) I think you are missing some DI procs. The reason I am thinking this is because the fight lasted 405 seconds divide that by 9.5 (cd+time to account for lag/slow reaction time) and you should have cast MB 42 times at the very least (which is exactly how many times you did cast MB). In addition you have 33 procs of DI. Now it's not like you missed casting MB 33 times, I am sure some of those 42 casts were DI casts. However, with that many procs you should be able to have cast MB more than 42 times during the fight. So I'd say you need to work on casting it as soon as it is off CD and catching all the DI procs.

I think for the most part you did do a good job of casting DP when you can. It's sort of weird though because there are two lines for it which I would assume would be the instant part and the dot part... but there is a huge difference in the number of casts between the two. Not really sure what is going on there =/

You had 45 Surge of Darkness procs but only 42 MS casts, so there is room for some improvement there.

Those are the main things I am noticing in your logs there. The other stuff seems fine though. You are missing your belt buckle though on the armory. Also, you might want to double check a gear calculator but I think if you undo the reforge on your staff it will put you right at 15% hit (204 spirit is 0.6% hit). Then if you want you can either leave the crit or reforge it to mastery. Either way it would do more for you than that extra spirit is atm.

Posting on behalf of our spriest who feels his DPS is low. Looks like he logged in his PVP gear, but I can check reforging/enchanting/etc myself later. Mainly looking for rotation help and just general advice.

Item Level Think he's 473 in PVE gear

Hi all. I would like to kindly ask you to look at my fellow SPRIEST's damage. I feel that he should be doing a lot more dps than he is right now.

    Here are our logs.
    1st from yesterday's Elegon tries
    http://www.worldoflogs.com/reports/wulc3qky0f3x4hi1/

    2nd from first 4 bosses
    http://www.worldoflogs.com/reports/ptcgf99kn2naserj/

    Here is his armory
    http://eu.battle.net/wow/ru/characte...kerheal/simple

It would be great if you could advise on his rotation/priority list change and maybe reforge/regem strategy in order to improve dps. This is especially important for Elegon.

    Thank you.

As far as I can tell he should aim for the haste breakpoint at 7584 (Goblin specific) rating, try to switch Divine Inisight for Twist of Fate and execute the Celestial Protector to maximize uptime on Twist of Fate and he should take a look at his Dot-uptime everything below 93-95% is too low imho.
He should also aim for a Relic of Yu'lon (Darkmoon Caster-Trinket), buy the Tailoring robe from the Auction House or craft it and lower his Hit-Rating a bit, if it's possible.
Nice thread for priorities and statweights and such things

    @Daggot Ur

His damage to the celestial protectors is low, dot cleaving those will help - executing them should up his twist of fate time too, if possible he should try to get dot casts off during ToF's as well, but in general as noxcurnor mentioned - overall his dot uptime could be improved - is he using a dot timer?

Also, dot cleaving the protectors would help, depending on your dps split for empyreal focii he could be dot cleaving those as well. His energy charge damage is probably fine though.

Halo should probably feature more prominently, I'd recommend he download a mod called HaloPro if he's having trouble hitting the sweet spot consistently - but it could also be that he was flustered during the late phases (it's a hectic time) and didn't get a good Halo on those adds (it looks like he hit them but he may have been clumped up with them because Halo has 165 damage hits but didn't do a stellar amount of damage overall.

During the Draw Power phase he's probably losing a lot of DoT uptime during that, which accounts for a decent chunk of his lost damage. If you look here:

    http://www.worldoflogs.com/reports/w...hi1/details/6/

He's got some massive periods where he's doing no damage to anyone, so that's really the biggest thing to fix - always be killing something.

If you want you can link him to my Elegon HC guide: http://www.mmo-champion.com/threads/...roic-Elegon-25

There isn't much difference between heroic and normal mode so almost everything in that guide can be applied to normal mode. There is also a video so he can see how it is applied in game. He should use Cascade on elegon, especially at that skill level. Halo is too hard to use for someone like him (sorry if it sounds harsh).

Windlord Mel'Jarak as a Shadow Priest? halp. fix my dps please

++ POSTING THIS ON BEHALF OF OUR SPRIEST WHO CAN NOT POST LINKS YET ++

Hey Priests, so we unsuccessfully attempted to down Windlord Mel'Jarak on 10m last night and I concluded (apart from an epic consecutive double windbomb wipe from me on second to last try) that I have to be doing something seriously wrong to under-dps my guildies by this amount. The highest DPS spike I ever managed throughout the whole try was in the beginning at around 160k by blowing halo/SF+hero/MS, but of course this was unsustainable once the multi-dotting started.

All I can think of really is keeping the highest possible % dot uptime but really what do I know anymore. Could anyone help me find what's going wrong please?

Here is a log from one of the longer tries: http://www.worldoflogs.com/reports/r...=14015&e=14449
    My armory: http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/characte...rophone/simple

Thanks for looking!! Love, peace and cake.

Looks like I caught him in PvE gear \o/

He has 3 unenchanted items and no belt buckle, so he should definitely get that taken care of. He's over hit cap and he reforged 152 haste to spirit, that should be undone. He is sooo far from the point where he needs to get to with haste that the pure haste gems and the haste/spirit are not the best options. For his yellow sockets he should use Reckless Vermilion Onyx and for blue it should be Veiled Imperial Amethyst or Purified Imperial Amethyst. You don't really want to forgo int until you can get yourself over 8085 with one/two gems at the most.

    As for the logs:
    10/18 Spiritbinder
First thing is he only cast MB 28 times, but he should have been able to get in at least 36 also he had 15 DI procs. So he definitly needs to be better with casting MB as soon as it is ready. Looks like he was good about using DP whenever he can which is good, but again if he had made full use of MB he would have been able to cast even more DP's.

I noticed he used sw:i as well, which is just suboptimal. I'd recommend he pretends that spell doesn't exist really =/ Uptimes on sw:p and vt are pretty good, he could work on that a bit. Also Glyph of Mind Blast is completely pointless for raiding.

SO basically fix some gear/glyph issues and focus on maximizing MB usage will make a real difference here. Also he should give Yvalle's guide (another?) a close read through as well.

Thanks for looking!! Love, peace and cake.
    Armory:
Missing bracer and mh enchant. Honestly you aren't at all close to the haste break point so the pure haste gems are hurting you because you are missing out on the int. I'd say for your yellow slots use Reckless Vermilion Onyx, Purified Imperial Amethyst in your blue slots and Brilliant Primordial Ruby in your red. At the cost of 1440 haste you'll gain 720 int, which is worth it because you can't even get to the breakpoint yet.

Another thing is you are only at 14% hit instead 15%. You can easily get much much closer by taking some of the spirit/hit you reforged into crit back. Everything else looks good, no wonky talents or glyphs.

    Log:

I am using this log instead because it appeared to be your best attempt and Astrophone didn't die until the end on this one (he died a little early on the one you linked).

He cast 45 MB's which is pretty close to what he should able to get, 51 is probably close to the max he'd get (taking in account reaction time and what not). Looks like he got all the DP's he could. Uptime on VT and sw:p were also good. Kind of low on sw:d but that is most likely due to the wipe. Looks like he only missed one usage of FDCL that proced too. Overall he's pretty much good on the mechanics. Tightening up MB a smidgen is the only I can really see here.

Hey Arlee, thanks for the reply! I only got the wep/bracers in raid finder yesterday so I'm still trying to scrape the mats together (after blowing 13 sha crystals on enchanting 463s two days ago...) I'll try regemming for int. Also for that matter would it be worth reforging any haste over the next breakpoint below to crit/mastery?

    Cheers

  15. #15
You certainly could reforge away some of the haste to crit/mastery if you want I generally don't recommend people to do that though. The main reason is often when people start doing that they often don't realize when they reach the point with gear where if they undid those reforges they would be at the breakpoint. As long as you remember to reassess your haste whenever you get new gear it should be fine.

I did windlord 10m today, and after trying out different approaches, I got the best results like this:

    Talents: Halo, DI, Mindbender.

Have a main target, that you will roll all dots on. SWP, VT, Mindblast.

Then you tab target all other targets and put up just SWP, which will feed you with constant mindblast procs. Then you simply spam mindblast and DP as much as you possibly can, while refreshing SWP on all the adds in between.

I had VT on 1 target at a time (usually a mender that we nuke), and didn't bother multidotting VT as it felt very inefficient. Mindbender made sure I had mana enough, and i didnt want FDCL to screw up my DI procs.

I ended at 125k DPS with a 485 ilvl gearset (non haste capped), and I just couldn't seem to get higher even when trying twist of fate and other combinations.

Sounds solid, I'll give that a try

I've been thinking about putting together a thread specifically on how to spec / play for each specific fight as shadow - so I'm particularly interested in testing these unorthodox approaches to specific fight mechanics - if you have any more please share

I think it's common knowledge a lot of the top priests, but I'll post in case anyone find the information useful:

On Elegon and Twin Emperors take Cascade over Halo. It does so much more damage on every single try I've done, with cascade doing up to 10-11% total damage on both encounters where Halo usually comes in everywhere between 4-6% on those, even when you try to position carefully.

On Elegon, you fire cascade when there is a protector up, and on the energy charges, the pillars and the sparks, always choosing the target furthest away from you.

On Emperor you use it on cooldown, also on the target furthest away. If the two emperors are spread apart, try to make sure there is an add it can jump to in between them so you hit both targets.
