Thread: SSD Brands.

    SSD Brands.

So it is time for me to upgrade my SSD, my current is a first-gen SSD about half the speed of the current ones(60gb), this is where you guys come in, I have the option of getting a 240gb OCZ Agility3 for $177, which I think is a pretty good deal, or a Corsair Force Series 3 240gb for about $30 more, I know Corsair is reliable from experience, but I'm unsure about OCZ so I'm basically looking for opinions. Also if you know of some better drive/deal let me know, I would consider getting a 120gb if necessary.

I wouldnt suggest any sandforce controller drives, even OCZ the forerunner for sandforce is now on indilinx, look for a crucial m4, vertex 4 etc.

well I'm using a Vertex 4 and f*** is it fast
Less than 20 second boot time and login with a whole heap of drivers and stuff installed
    Definite recommendation from me
As for corsair I believe that they are a good company but living in Aus, when I had to RMA a PSU it was an absolute pain to deal with the overseas departments that handle it

Thanks guys, much appreciated. I may just get a 128gb vertex4, the others are out of my current budget lol, but I should experience a fairly big speed increase, since this new SSD is literally twice as fast as my current one.

Corsair Force series GT here and I have 14-17 second second from pressing the power button to desktop with some programs (curse client and steam) already loaded.

I was never a Corsair fanboy but this SSD is amazing.

Crucial M4 should be in the same price range if not cheaper @ 128gb

Going from mechanical to any SSD will be amazing.

Yeah I would definitely stay away from SF-2200 drives (Agility 3, Vertex 3, Force 3 etc.).

I think the best/most popular drives right now are the Crucial M4 and the Samsung 830, though I own a Vertex 4 and it's a great drive too.

For overall price/performance and more importantly reliability you want either a Crucial m4 or Samsung 830 as Skelly also mentions.
