Motivation for WvWvW before max level?

I just started WvWvW yesterday. It's pretty neat. However I played for nearly an hour with no tally screen or any indication of rewards. Outside of experience points, I didn't see any flashy numbers popping up that entice me like crack. I'm told in the first week, the battles last 24 hours and will be extended to two weeks once the confusion of launch subsides. Do I have to be present at the end of the battle to get the phat rewards?

Do I earn any sort of rep points/advancement/currency for my individual character or account? I see a bunch of vendors in the starting area hawking items for some currency I do not have.

I know I contribute to some server-wide buffs while in the PvP zone (I'm not sure if the buffs carry over into PvE) , but that doesn't seem like much of an incentive on its own.

Simply, to have fun. You get experience, you get karma (as long as you're participating in an event rather than just randomly fighting in the middle of nowhere), you have fun.

Some people really enjoy the gameplay of WvWvW and don't care for the PvE. Different people are different.

Well for 1 WvW is MASSIVE experience and karma if you successfully capture/defend points, so you will see more rewards if you dont just roam around fighting on roads (unless its to take the supply trains :P). As for the rest: its for the fun, and the server competition.

When do I get the currency those vendors at the starting areas use?

How? I can play 2-3 hours at least on my server(Stormbluff Isle) and get like 2 bars if Im lucky. Theres nothing to assault cause we control 99% of the maps and theres nothing to defend cause I think the other sides stopped queuing cause I can run around for 20 minutes and not find a red name.

If I transfer to a bad realm will I get more exp?

You get exp from WvW. What you are essentially saying is that you are not WvWing. That is why you are not getting exp.

The issue is that we are currently in a ladder ranking phase. They are keeping an eye on the matches in the first week with irregular battle lenghts to get a feel of what each server can do. Eventually, the matches will be better/closer. Of course, if you are on one of the zerg servers that is dominating the map, then you wont get much for standing there or walking around an empty zone.

No, because they're failing to capture. The point is that for most middling servers (I mean no offense by that, just a term), you can get massive exp and karma. When things balance out in a few weeks and the high-ends are playing the high-ends, middle against middle, and poor against poor, the landscape should look dramatically different.

There's also plenty of PvE objectives around WvW that can benefit your server. No idea where they are, though.

What do you mean by that? Are there actual groupings where all 3 servers are doing about the same when it comes to WvW? I have been to three servers now trying to find a WvW utopia of lots of fights combined with massive exp and it hasnt happened yet. Every server has one who controls everything. Someone hook me up with a US server where all 3 are doing about the same when it comes to capturing stuff. Maybe not 33% for all 3 but at least two viable servers fighting it out would be great. For me sPvP is boring. I dont wanna say it, but its just more WoW BGs. Im here for WvW.

Considering the WvW matchups change daily (eventually, biweekly), you're never find one that always has a perfect matchup. You're facing other realms, not other factions like in other games

Well there has to be something better than this. Its just impossible to get EXP.

I've heard rumors that sometimes the points (not sure about ownership) don't reset with some of the WvW match changes, not sure if a) those are true, b) the full extent of the issue and c) if the issue has been resolved. Or even d) if that's the cause of what you're seeing.

I was exited about WvWvW but im realy disapointed it was 100x better in DAOC and since PVE is realy not that great in GW2 im starting to wonder what im gona with that game, well sPvP is nice at least ( same old wow 2.0 questing instead of kill 10 boar its kill boar until your gold bar if filling).

Remember that these WvWvW battles are essentially being done for the initial rankings and match-ups. They only last 24 hours each, and the good servers are not matched up against the other good servers yet.

Wait until the 2-week battles, it'll get better.

You guys that keep saying they reset every 24 hours are wrong at least as far as my server goes. Now our server and our first two opponents were in the group that couldn't do WvW for almost 3 days but we have been fighting those same 2 servers since head start. They reset the points kind of randomly it seems. It's been at least 2 days since the last point reset.

I got 15k karma first day in WvWvW, jsut having fun, its a great way to get xp and karma...if you are winning that is.

Yep and pwning both of them, I'd really hate to be fissure of woe right now...though gandara is putting up some resistance from time to time, they are both helpless before the might that is desolation. Now, back to escorting that dolyak until some enemies join the map again....

To get karma / xp in WvWvW you have to actually play it.
Capture objectives and do events like defense or attack.

Killing random people on roads won't do much.
