Would you wanna play a class almost exactly like the hunter, without the pet?

I'd love to have an option to not use a pet and/or be more like a ranger. Sylvanas (dark ranger version) is the perfect vision of the hunter class for me. I've always like to play the ranger/archer type class in RPGs. It's confusing (and stupid) for people to say "why'd you pick the hunter class if you don't want a pet?" or "choose another class". A hunter is not the poster child of a "dps class with a pet", it's the poster child for ranged dps.

It makes me so happy to see the majority of people would like to play a hunter class without the pet. It would be the best thing to happen to my enjoyment of the game if it actually happened. I would only play the hunter spec w/o pet(but solo with it) or change mains if another class used bows and had no pet.

I can see why some people really like them and think they are mandatory but in my view its always just been something that takes away from my character since I dont control it. Also prior to this MMO there was no archer with a pet unit in a Warcraft game so for Warcraft the pet is definitely not iconic or mandatory since the archer/ranger/rifleman its modeled after never had pets.

Although with the addition of so much pet-centric stuff in MoP it looks like Blizzard has dug the hole even further for hunters to never be free of their pets, there is hope. GC mentioned the possibility of 4th specs in his Twitter so it is possible they would add a 4th spec(even though the guy wanted a melee spec). They can retool the pet talents/abilities for the new spec so they dont involve pets but come from the hunter. Or if they arent going to add another class that uses bows, its possible for monks or rogues to have physical ranged 4th specs. What we all need to do then is bombard the official forums with requests for a petless option or spec and if the majority of 4th spec requests are for this it might happen.

I play marx and survival in pve, and i barely even notice my pet is there.
It does everything on auto cast, it follows what i attack, it rarely takes any damage from raid bosses and it brings useful auto-cast buffs.

BM players obviously do want a pet, but i do not know why Marks/Surv would mind having a pet around since it is completely automated anyway.

Having mostly played MM / SV all expansion (BM since prepatch since it's OP though) all i have to do with my pet is macro /petattack into serpent sting, and macro rabid into cobra shot...i dont even know it's there half the time, til it died to a parasite (pre-ubernerf) or something

Yes that would be awesome. I always wanted something like that for MM, even though I hate the spec now with ISS and focus.

Even if GC just said he'd rather do new specs than rework old ones i still think that Survival should stay as it is, being the hunter trapper-style we all know while the other two could use some changes.
MM could become an archer/rifleman/ranger spec, being petless and all about sniping while BM could be a Rexxar-like Beast Master, playing melee with many, huge pets.

The pets are a huge factor in why I personally went with Hunter. If a similar class existed that didn't have the pet, there isn't a chance I'd play it.

We don't want to take away your pet. We want a CHOICE to take away the pet.

Like some people have said, MM makes sense as a pet-less spec. Once again, as an option.

Does having a pet sometimes annoy my fellow hunters, or do you think it adds a certain "feel"?

I always thought it was cool to be the only other class to have a pet but now everybody has one besides warrior and rogue. I know all classes don't have a permanent pet but some have temporary pets like priest and pally's. IDK I would like the idea of marksmen hunter not having a pet I could see it being the spec that wouldn't use a pet.

It would fix a big chunk of issius if we would get some range attack pets. Most known fights with pet ai bugs would just get doable..

make hunter focus on nature/pets. new class Sniper/Marksmen focuses on stealth or combat (without a pet).

Give Hunters a talent like Grimoire of Sacrifice, and all is golden. Instant Ranger class.

I would love to, call it nostalgia or personal preference, a lot of people likes the idea of archers and rangers from previous Warcraft games. It could work either adding a new spec (like Ranger) or modifying MM, which sadly is in that forgotten area. It basically says you are an archer, and oh, you have a pet to, do something with that critter.

To balance the soloing and pvp utility and damage output added by the pet, the new spec/modified MM could use some arrow themed abilities with an autocast feature. (cc, solo survivavility, etc) but being careful to not thread to closely to the aspect buffs. Maybe even a nature themed self heal.

If we are on wishing, I would also love a dark ranger spec too! that lore class has so much fun potential with the raising of undead minions and mind control and life draining for survivavility, but is harder to see it as a hunter spec with so many differences. Maybe there it could work as a different class althogether with three new specs. Ranger/Dark Ranger/Shadow Hunter. It could be awesome, but is just wishful thinking.
