Maps remind me of sc2 maps...different layouts for different strats with the same goal in mind...I too would like to see more maps with different styles i would love an option for arenas like WoW...just kill the other team and win...but leave the downed state in for that...how intense would those matches get...perhaps without a healer it might crumble and not be good but sounds epic...class balancing does need to be addressed but I have faith they'll do so when they get around to it...

They need a queue group feature too imo. But touch my quickness buff and i'll kill you =P...its strong as fuck just gotta learn how to dodge it etc...stability block...I am getting quite good at blocking big bursts like that...3 second block is so good when you time it perfectly...similarly co-ordinating your control player in a teamfight is good too keep an eye on that warrior that will stun quickness 100 blades...if im playing cc warrior i'll aoe people while waiting for him to do his bulls charge the moment i see that i'll cc the fuck otuta him...shit like that people will learn in time.

Quickness with anything is stupid. It either needs nerfing or removing.

Variance in PvP games mostly comes from the players. I've been playing a bit of sPvP (8v8) and I've never had 2 games play out the same. To use Team Fortress 2 (once again) as an example. My favorite maps are all variations on Control Point, but they're still exciting, because you constantly have to adapt to new strategies and playstyles.

Something I've been noticing a LOT lately.
They need to implement some kind of punishment for leaving matches or something. Like wows deserter debuff, or negative glory or something.

Almost no such thing as a good, close game in BGs. Its usually a total domination, and heres why.
A lot of people seem to leave as soon as a team starts losing. Then the other team is able to roflstomp for a minute b4 it autobalances or adds more people. Then its usually impossible to come back from that lead.

I find the downed state to be really annoying.. even when I knock someone down 1v1 half the classes have annoying knockback/teleport abilities in the downed state. If you don't have a steady or teleport skill up, it can be a major pita to kill someone and you'll get someone else showing up before you can actually finish them :/

That being said I have been loving the sPvP on my guardian, I do free tourns over and over for 6 hours and it seems like I've been playing for 10 minutes.

I think Guild Wars 2's PvP is very bad

The slow and awkward movement and combat just doesn't fly in PvP. It's adequate for PvE, but just feels way to clunky, and made to be easy for casual players, in PvP
Rest In Peace, World of Warcraft. Subscriber count doesn't matter, WoW has been dead in spirit for a while
Rest In Peace, Star Wars the Old Republic. SWTOR is a fun RPG, but a bad MMO

Not sure if that's true when you see good players absolutely wrecking face in PvP. Some people are amazing solo and just unstoppable in a duo. Zrave posted a vid of a 500-0 win in the 2nd round of a 5v5. So the team they were fighting had to win the first round only to be laughed off the map in round 2

    Gief DRs and nerf Guardians.

I'm not a fan of being chain-knockdowned/knockbacked by multiple Guardians. And when you can actually get to them you're just killing yourself on Retaliation unless your Mesmer has Null-field up.

Oh and do something about Quickness... It kinda sucks to get certainly KOd whenever a HB Warrior catches you in a hasted HB during a KD with your escapes on CD.

Just did my first tournament (free) and it was amazing. A lot more fun than 8v8 games. A lot closer too. And my team, consisting purely of random players even won, it was great.

And here's a message to everyone who likes to do 8v8: Play the fucking objective! If you're not at an objective, or moving towards one or preventing an enemy from reaching it, you're doing it wrong and being a burden on your team. The five points you get from killing a single player don't weigh up against the 30+ points you could have gotten from capturing a point.

I like the idea of the downed state, the potential. It's only annoying if the #2 skill is too good in keeping the enemy away. I don't mind the Elementalist's, or even the Guardian's, but Thieves and Mesmers annoy the crap out of me.

So, being chain-stunned by a single Warrior is perfectly fine?
I love it how people seem to love asking for Guardian-nerfs.

I think the PvP is brilliant. From the maps to the class balances. People complain about thieves but they've got to realise that they're extremely squishy and in the case of a Mesmer they're really good in 1v1s but they lack mobility and that can be game changing in tournaments.

Yeah Guardian's downed state ability is not very effective. If I get knocked down in a group fight I nearly always die. One knockback that doesn't work against a steady. I guess thieves and mesmers are the ones who teleport all over the place and make illusions.. yeah those are annoying as hell even when there is noone else around.

Yeah a Thief spamming Heartseeker is not going to do very well. Heartseeker is only good after you've whittled away at their health and they're low. It's a finisher, not a nuke. That said, I do think backstab could use a slight nerf. I've recorded 12k+ crits with CDs.

I don't think Guardians and Warriors need a nerf so much as proper DRs are needed.

There are some builds relying purely on heartseeker spam and they work just fine.

There are some balance issues, as there are bound to be in games like this.

Tweaks are needed though, as the entire Heart of Mists is a bit confusing for newcomers (where do I go, why is all this gear free, what are the lockers for, etc etc). The game selection UI could be better, and parties should have some option to join a game as well, outside of the tournament option.

The maps are different enough, but all do 'feel' the same due to the similar objectives. There simply needs to be more maps, I'm sure they're coming.

I won't list my pro's, needless to say the PvP is very fun and addicting. Here's some of my cons though:

Downed state mechanic balance: In particular the warrior's 3rd ability, if you kill a warrior and you're less than ~30% health he will resurrect and have a possibility to down you. The kicker is if he does, he is immune to knockback/stun while he is finishing you off and if traited will rally (quite common to go up (?) tree for %crit dmg).
The mesmer downed stat stacks confusion like a beast which if allowed has the ability to put out a tonne of damage.

Water combat: A personal issue, but definitely one that is shared. The water combat is pretty horrible, that's not to say it doesn't work, it just isn't fun. I've had games where ruins hasn't been capped at all because people hate the water combat that much.

Game response: This is mainly a personal issue as well. The location of characters on the server is quite strange if you encounter any sort of lag. For example if i ever lag during a bullrush i will end up 5 meters away of the knockdowned target. There are also many strange occurances (possible bugs) that are a result of movement skills (one being dodge). I big peeve is that a talent that breaks immobilization on use of a movement skill (warrior) doesn't work all the time.

Other annoyances: Sometimes 100% movement speed doesn't kick in when moving at a forward angle (eg. holding up+right) forcing you to repress up again. The problem is you can't hold a button and press the same button again with out wasting a dodge. Some classes can specialise into condition removal quite easily heavily reducing damage of condition specs. This normally wouldn't be a problem since in most games DoT's usually do more damage over time than a single target spell. In Guild Wars 2 however, many classes DoT's don't push out better damage than a power oriented build with some of their best damage DoT's being linked with RNG on crit or high CD spells. There are also many other drawbacks to DoT's (a big one being 0 damage to structures) and of course no burst. Of course i am an abuser of the many warrior's abilities which negates a lot of condition damage specs.
