Nope. There was a product named ScentWare like 12 years ago. I still have their SDK.

It was a very huge flop.

I can see how armour perfumes would become a cash-shop sensation overnight.

I think i've seen this already too. I'm not sure it's a feature that is really needed. Can't think of any game where I would want to smell what's happening.

I always wanted to know how Tetris smells like.

I'm pretty sure this was actually under development for the playstation 2, but can't for the life of me remember what it was called. If i remember correctly the engineers were having a problem making bad smells, but could quite easily replicate good smells.

I would love to see this in game. Can you imagine overlooking a bluff, and having that fresh air smell as a breeze passes over you? That would be extremely immersive, and a solid step in the direction of true VR.

I hope it never happens, my nose is already annoyingly sensitive I don't need more sensory input like that.

If you can smell in games, you can smell in movies too....... makes me think, the porn industry will be the first to put it to use..... Pheromones galore..

    Yikes..

Not as new as one might think: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smell-O-Vision

    No thanks.

This idea is so impractical it will never see any serious investment/development.
^ The above should be taken with two grains of salt and a fistful of "chill the F* out".

WoW has incorporated smell since its release....sadly it only works for 1 race. Forsaken as they can not(/hardly) smell anything, so you are immersed in the game by not smelling any of it.

I think it could be fun, but I'd much rather they would improve other aspects of games.
I hope they don't develop taste tech soon :P I would never be able to eat fish in minecraft anymore O_o
WoW characters that need/deserve to get killed/punished/otherwise removed from the story: Tirion(dead now), Thrall, Malfurion, Sylvanas(soon?), Jaina, Tyrande

    Yes, we will have smell.
For the love of God, don't let Blizzard anywhere near this technology. Furor will make every other quest revolve around digging through poop.
OMG 13:37 - Then Jesus said to His disciples, "Cleave unto me, and I shall grant to thee the blessing of eternal salvation."

And His disciples said unto Him, "Can we get Kings instead?"

    You're a clever one!

OT:No, I really don't want to smell anything that I find in video games.

As someone who's recently played/read Saya no Uta, I find you to be an incredibly disturbing person.

Out of the many things you could think of... you want to "smell" a game xD?

  15. #35
Would be freaking amazing if they went into that level of detail but I don't think it will happen till Mmos progress to the level of the .//hack or sword art online level of how you interact in them.

It would be possible I think, but very expensive though. I see no point in it though, as I'd rather play a game without smells than a game with smells.

im sure as hell never gonna buy a scent-releasing device for my pc... you'd probably have to refill it regularly in order to keep the smells correctly suspended...

what a crappy invention this would be...

Actually being able to smell the virtual blood being spilled would be pretty cool.
He is the life of guilds he has never joined.
He once had a noobish moment- just to see what it felt like.
If he were to beat you in a duel, you would have to fight the strong urge to thank him.
The Lunar Elders have a holiday in which they honor him.
He can speak Darnassian. In Orcish.

They could probably make it work with something like electrical impulses but I'm sure that technology is a good ways a way so chemical induced scents would be it for now and not only could I see it costing a good amount in the long run I could also see people having health issues because of them.

It would be interesting though, something I'd be more interested in than this whole 3D imaging the media seems to think is the greatest thing ever.
