Mafia game discussion thread.

So what all goes into making/modding a game. I have some theme ideas that I think might be fun but I imagine it's more than simply setting up teams and giving everyone roles. People mention balancing, etc.

I'm busy at different times of the year so I was thinking modding games might be a good way to stay involved when I can only check a couple times a day on the posts and definitely don't have time to do analysis on the side.

Modding games has a lot of time reqs on the front end, figuring out the set-up and what not and less during actual games which can be nice. It is pretty easy to do if you stay with basic stuff but once you start making tweaks to roles it can quickly get complicated because sometimes a small tweak can have a huge effect on the game and if you don't think about it, it could be pretty messy. Aside from that you also have to think about how you want to do night actions. General options are everything happens at the same time or there's a night action priority system. Both methods have their own complications which can arise. That's the super short answer

If you want to mod I'd first co mod someone else's game so you can see all the behind the scenes. But basically what Arlee said, you have to be really knowledgeable about balance when it comes to tweaking roles usually this type of knowledge comes with experience.

Just as an update on D&D Mafia, the game is near completion. At the rate the current game is ending, though, it may be wise to let one more game go ahead.

I'm expecting to have a thing in the next few weeks that would cause me to disappear for several days mid-game, and I'd rather not inflict that on you guys.
