Those types of scenarios also cause amber alerts....

You know, if you offered Ice cream to tech people they'd do more than sort the RAM...

I can change it myself - i just need to know what to buy. A computer is like assembling electrified lego.

Sorry. I usually break things down well enough, but that wasn't something that I could really break down any further.

Simply put, if the biggest thing you're looking for is the 16GB and you just want to stick the RAM into the computer and have it work without any extra effort or money spent on your part, get the 1600 like Uggor said and ignore anything else I said before this post.

I was leaning toward suggesting this anyway, since it didn't sound like tinkering with the board settings (albeit very little) was something you were even remotely interested in, but my usual policy is to not tell people what to do with their computer until they specifically ask me to, just provide information as best I can. Apologies, if that made it more complicated than it needed to be.

Buy a server board, install 128 GB, 1600 mhz is still fine.

...all this tech talk. It confuses me. I...don't even know what 'GB' or 'mhz' even is.

I can use the internet and play games but that's about it when it comes to PC stuff.

Its rather easy to build your own pc though... I bought mine from new and slowly upgraded it over the years. I've had everything out since i had to get a new casing so i could build a PC from scratch atm.

The GF is thinking about replacing her MOBO (The computer says there's a memory issue, but a RAM test says the Memory is just fine).

Going to open it up and check what's in it sometime next week. May need some advice, depending on what else she wants to upgrade/replace.

Just looking at a new MOBO, and upgrading the Memory atm.

we need to know your cpu and what ram you have

I'll post all that once I've had a chance to look inside her case, and check what components she has in there.

It's an older Alienware model (From just before Dell bought them out).

wouldn't something like cpu-z be able to tell you your mobo?

I'd give you an inch, you'd take me a mile, your tail wagging happily all the while.

The CPU/MOBO have already been replaced at least once since she bought it. Lightning strike took it out.

And yah, I was planning to use CPU-Z or something similar when I want over Tuesday to get the specifics of the parts. Opening it up, is so I can see how much room is inside it.

It's a longer case than I'm used to seeing, so I want to see what the extra room inside is being used for.
