    You did chapter 3 wrong.

No, that's only if you pick the option to do so at the ending, otherwise you get told they're rebuilding Intelligence or you become Imperial Batman. I'm talking about when you get back to HQ just before Corellia.

Yeah I know. I was making a joke highlighting how stupid the trooper thing was.

Yes, but that is the entire point of the Imperial Agent storyline. The major theme is how do normal people survive in a setting with an aristocracy that has real, undeniable, personal and inherent power. How do the non-Sith deal with the Sith?

Every single storyline in the Agent quests reinforces this. Take the very first planet, Hutta. You're setting up an op, and everything is going well, when all of sudden some random Sith in deep space throws a tantrum, and wrecks your op. And all you can do is deal with it, because you are not Sith.

    Thread Necro! >: )

So after resubscribing I decided to pick back up with my Trooper. I just got Vic and I've been waiting to chime in with my thoughts since previous forum opinions on him seem varied. Honestly, I did not pick up on any indicator that he was bad at his job. He basically grabbed guys off the street and had a lofty goal to break into an Imperial-defended vault. When you show up, he recognizes you as superior to his enlisted fodder and gets you to assist. To me, that sounds like a fairly ruthless guy who gets things done no matter what the cost [to others].

That being said, he's also been a breath of fresh air as my entire crew thus far has been regulation quoting heel clickers. This isn't a bad thing. Aric has enough resentment and pride to serve as a contrast to Elara's 100% by-the-book-don't-judge-me-because-I-used-to-be-an-Imperial persona...which is further contrasted by M1-4X's comical "For the Republic!" attitude. Vic is pure Renegade. Can I trust him not to stab me in the back? I'm not sure yet.

Storywise, I have 1 more planet and 1 more companion to collect before I complete Chapter 2. While Chapter 1 was definitely better, Chapter 2 has not been bad. Gathering specialists to complete a suicide run is basically Mass Effect 2. We'll see how it concludes and whether Chapter 3 is exciting enough to at least muscle through.

As a side note, I got a Trooper specific quest that might be only for female characters (I'm assuming there is a male version as well). It involved heading back to Coruscant and having a "Ladies Night" with an NPC encountered there along with some other female Republic soldiers. It gave no XP or rewards, but I thought it was worth mentioning because it was a cool little scene that added some humanity back into the character inbetween piles of corpses and used powercells.

I personally really liked Vic and I agree that he is a breath of fresh air in your companion group. Though I did also really like Dorne.

Admittedly, Dorne has been my favorite "healer" companion outside of Dr. Lokin.

I havn't played Trooper myself so I cannot say with first hand experience if it gets better or not.

But on the flip side to all the people saying Chapter 3 is terrible I gotta say though, you could find it completely different.

    As a comparison;

I found Chapter 1 of the smuggler story to be the best I coulda hoped for. You were a rogue, you answered to pretty much no one. Your goals were personal and self serving.

After chapter 1 though I hated it. You became a republic lap dog with a boss and objectives given to you that only vaguely related to your personal interests. There were still parts I liked but I felt the overall story lost the independance that chapter 1 had.

I've voiced these opinions here and on the Swtor forum but for some reason people usually don't see it the same way. They completely write off that you become a nobody soldier with no rank who answers to the republics bidding.

Basically because at the end of every planet you make ONE decision that can be greedy apparently that absolves the staleness of the rest of the smuggler storyline. Only at the very end on Corellia for a brief moment does the story take a turn more smuggler-like.

Like I said though I can't personally weigh in on the trooper story in specific but I can give an example of how people can think very different about how good a story is.

I loved the Trooper storyline and it was the only Pub one I liked. I pretty much liked how you could be a good by the book soldier or you could be that "Frag the village and kill everything even the animals" evil soldier. So the darkside choices were much more fun to take. Plus female voice is one of the best.

The male trooper is having a relation with one of the NPC's... you'd meet up with her several times and she will even assist you in a later instance... . Tell me when you reach that and how you liked what Bioware did. I personally enjoyed it very much.

I finished Chapter 2 and will likely finish Chapter 3 tonight (only have Corellia left, and its going to be a pure story mission run). The quick impression I have is that the story is much duller compared to the others I've done. Its good, but even the Consular seemed to have more urgency and more at stake. The lack of a central villain is what hurts these stories the most, and right now with Random Imperial General #6 I just don't have a lot of motivation to get the job done. That being said, I do think the Trooper has some nice level designs for their class-specific missions. The prison asteroid was one of the better designed and story-driven missions as well.

Okay, finished the Trooper storyline. It was...disappointing. I still rate BH as the worst, but this one sits squarely one peg above it (Smuggler is the only one I haven't done yet).

The assessment that Chapter 1 is awesome is true, it definitely was the best as far as story and class missions are concerned. Chapter 2 slowed down a little, but this is the case with a lot of the classes honestly. Chapter 3 just dragged on and on. The class missions were mostly boring and unimaginative. Even the finale, while overall pretty cool, didn't seem all the impressive by the end. And the last dialogue scene with the Grand Chancellor made me want to ragequit.

Overall, I think where they failed to make this story work lies with a single theme that was introduced previously, but was not really driven home until one of the last dialogues. Specifically, that the Republic's politicians and top brass are incompetant. This was briefly touched on via Aric Jorgan's storyline with the Deadeyes, but really fleshed out with Rakton and the Grand Chancellor. If the writers had focused more on this in Chapter 3, I think it would have made for a more interesting story, as the Trooper hero has his/her loyalties questioned by constantly being hindered by beauracracy. It could let the story split between being more renegade or following the rules to the letter, and provide good opportunities to question morality and duty. I think Aric said it best after his faith in the Republic was shaken that he was fighting for all the people that couldn't fight, not the politicians.

Unfortunately, Chapter 3 was another team assembly class story that culminated with a fairly interesting class mission that was made so only by how boring and uncreative the previous class missions were. In the end, I would not recommend the Trooper storyline past Chapter 1 for someone who is purely interested in seeing the stories. However, the class (Vanguard at least) is pure beastmode mechanically.

    BH is definitely bottom tier.

    Same with smuggler.

Chapters 2 through voss are terrible.

I leveled two of them, it was ok. I think the companion stories add a lot to their class story. Though it would have been so weird if I wasn't light side. They had some really cool moments and the ending was solid. Great hunt goes on for way too long though.

Doh, and I have to do the Smuggler now. =(

Fortunately I have a Guardian and Shadow in their late 20's, so I'm still getting a fill of decent story when I need it. =)

    My favorites so far;

    1. Imperial agent, got him to 50, best story in the game.
    2. Jedi Knight, also to 50, classic knight vs. imperial bad guy, loved it.
    3. Sith Warrior, only have him to level 45 but I can see why so many people like the story behind it.
    4. Trooper, also at 50, maybe I just like the military and what goes along with it.
    5. Smuggler - level 50, more for the snarky responses than the story per-say.
    6. Consular - I went though as a healer up to level 50 so the main plot made a bit more sense but, overall story was meh...
    7. Bounty Hunter - only at level 21 so hard to say at this point.
    8. Sith Assassin - only at level 21, maybe the story get's better but so far the story/class mechanics have had me sitting on this character at level 21 for months. Will I ever max him out? Who knows.
