For anybody looking to try this, even if you could prevent people from other realms from showing up on the server, all of the nodes and spawns are still server based instead of client based, so what would it solve? You can't force other people to not CRZ, I imagine it just prevents you from interacting with them.
I'm not even sure how that would work.. the crossover is happening server-side. Adding something to the client doesn't seem like it would have the slightest effect.
Im not sure that will work from the way I understand CRZ. The way it works is(for Outland) one server runs Hellfire, SMV, and Netherstorm and another server runs the other zones. So if you are in Hellfire you are on server A and server B does not have a Hellfire Peninsula in which to spawn nodes or rares. To fix it this way they would have to rework how items and creatures spawn and basically phase them to you based on your original server.
The other thing they could do is just increase the spawn rate of nodes and rare spawns. They constantly change rates at the beginning of expansions when everyone is farming to level profs so it is something they could easily do now.
Um, I've reported cross realm before when I had people grief LFR. You open a ticket and say So-and-so from That-server is griefing players at the Dark Portal.
I mean it's not a one button click, but if you're that pissed off, writing a short report shouldn't be a big deal, right?

As stated in the link on the first page, this only works if your server is hosting a zone, but everyone's being sent to another server hosting the same zone.
Which does not seem like it will happen much except in case of an error.
If your server was hosting Durotar, why would you be sent to another server? It wouldn't make sense that your server's hosting Durotar and you're sent to another server, but people from other servers are sent to your server.

However, the way it operates at the moment is, you have an established connection to your home server, and once you zone to a CRZ only location, you establish a connection with the host server, fetching the node information from the home server still remains possible, considering you are still connected to it, its just currently, these nodes are disabled.
They also mentioned that at any time they feel that a specific CRZ area is overly populated, they can take a realm or two off the rotation, meaning the home server spawn mechanic is still in place, thus making it possible to fetch relevant data related to the player when it comes to nodes.
That might work at the start, but as we go through the expansion, this will be a huge issue, it will inflate the supply of everything greatly, thus lowering the prices, and/or satiate the market in a harmful way.The other thing they could do is just increase the spawn rate of nodes and rare spawns. Now they can always reduce it again, but when that happens, we will run to the main issue again, the issue of multiple realms competing for the same amount of nodes.
Someone, somewhere, must have a really smart way to fix this.. WHERE THE HELL IS HE/SHE!
You're right, it's their game and they can ultimately do what they want even if this is a grey area in terms of whether it's exploiting the game or not.
But people have been blocking and redirecting web ports for years in order to keep themselves safe or to see better game performance. To see them start banning folks for blocking ports in Windows firewall or something similar would be an interesting ordeal, and I'm genuinely curious how it would play out.
CRZ works something like this (as an assumption, but a valid one);
- You are on realm A
- Another person is on realm B
- A third and fourth person(s) are on realms C and D respectively
- Each person remains on their realm as the character data, including realm, is read from a database
- When a player enters a CRZ Enabled Area, their details are forwarded to a "report server" and they're "disconnected" from the local world server
- Equally important, mob (more specifically spawn) data is shared across the CRZ server so as to avoid multiple spawns of rares, nodes, etc
- The game client reads and writes the data to and from the report server
- When in a non-CRZ Area, the game reverts to reading and writing data to the local world server (AKA Your realm server)
- "Global" chat channels function in a similar manner, while "personal" ones such as Guild and Whisper work regardless of which world server you're connected to
Now, think about it for a moment. If you block access to the CRZ Realms, you'll not have access to nodes, mobs, or ANY other players, even those on your own realm. It's also possible that the automatic disconnection system they have in place will detect you're no longer connected to a world server and proceed to disconnect you from the game. You might be able to login, but it'll either disconnect you upon entering a CRZ area, or it'll respond with "World Server is down" or some other message. It might be that the game falls back to local realms if the CRZ realm goes down but i'd hazard a guess they've designed the system to not be exploited in such a way that you could get nodes all to yourself or such.
So, even if you do decide to go ahead with it, it's not advised to do so.

As many have said, this is something that would break the TOS. As one individual has already linked how (and been dealt with), I see no reason to keep this open when the answer is clear and there is nothing to discuss that doesn't already come close to breaking our rules regarding discussing how to exploit systems.
