100 bucks isn't a big issue. but would it be a complete waste if i invested in the gtx 670? what is ur guys opinion which should i go with for a new gaming build if i wanna everything on max on 24 inch display?

personally I wouldn't buy anything from either of those companies their products seem to be cheaply made to me XFX is my brand of choice awesome products awesome warranty and total price on this one after rebate is $419 and it's already overclocked as it is the Black Edition. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150586

Here is all the info you need to look at on the 7970 http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.ph...=858&Itemid=72

ATI hasn't made drivers for ages. They're not even a company anymore. When AMD picked them up, they completely overhauled driver development. I mean, if we were to compare driver support this generation Nvidia had the worse release by far with all of the early bugs on the 680/670 release.

I don't know, up to you of course, but if you want the best bang for your buck for current gaming and long term viability, the 7970 is it. More emphasis intended on how well that card will age with a 384bit membus and 3GB of VRAM compared to GK104's crippled 192/256bit membus and 2GB of VRAM.

Provide a source showing that Sapphire makes poorly built cards or don't say it at all. They've long been regarded as one of the best AMD exclusive makers.

I don't need a source to give my personal opinion notice that "to me" part in there, Same could be said in regards to your statement, and given my history and experience with multiple XFX products over the past 15 years I know and trust their products.

XFX was founded in 2002. 6 years off your claim. Regardless, stating that 2 of the largest GPU manufacturers available are cheaply made is fine, if you have proof. Otherwise simply state that's it's strictly your own personal opinion.

Honestly , I actually found this to be the best from reviews for the 7970, the GHZ edition.

Fast, great cooling, great reliable company.

and physX works on a single AMD card!!

Also note, I have owned a Geforce 8800, AMD 5450, GTX 560 SE, and now the Sapphire 7970 Ghz edition, I go for performance, not the name!

Depends on the games your playing I guess, some games seem to perform better for some cards, personally I have an EVGA 670 which clocks as good as a 680 and I can run wow on ultra at 1440p with no real problems, some games 7970s will obv out perform a 670 by a large margin, and some games ill will possibly go the other way, if you can afford a 670/7970 then go for it, pick which one you prefer or which is the best deal there both amazing cards that will handle anything you need. IM not sure what deals there are, alot of the 7970s or 7950s ive seen seem close to a 670 or more expensive, my brother has the 7970R XFX black someone linked earlier and its an absolute beast for gaming

The 7950 is a competitor of the GTX 670, the 7970 ghz rivals the 680.

But i've had both brands in my PC, but from most ive read, ATI has the best stuff right now, just as good sometimes better than the Nvidia cards, and cheaper too.
    You can't loose there.
If you are going to buy the same performance card, for 100 dollars more just to pay for the name, then you should just get a alienware same thing pretty much as far as i can see lol.

The only thing im worried about is how well the ATI card will perform with games with PhysX turned on high.

The 7950 competes with the 660 ti, 7970 with the 670 and the 7970 GHz with the 680. Or something around those lines.
And i wouldnt worry to much about PhysX, the only game using it right now is borderlands 2, and the last game before that (AFAIK) was maffia 2.

As for the OP, i would also go for an AMD card. But if you are dead set on Nvidia, id go for the 670. Because of the membus it might last you longer
