I dunno, my response was pretty passive if I say so myself.

Even with that, people can decide to, for example, quote what you say and say "This" or "What Vet said", then add further opinions (though usually this only acts as encouragement to post, most of the times if such opinions are held they'd post them anyways). Or anything of the sort. Pretty much anything is kindle. It's a pain, but meh.

It's not so much posts like that STARTING it, but increasing the responses to a topic probably isn't going to make the topic die down any faster :P The more responses to any given subject and the more it spreads, the more likely it is to turn into an argument or anything. One of the best ways, as I said, to prevent this kind of thing from happening, is to just not talk about subjects that we ALL KNOW the results of, especially if they're against the rules.
