    The WoW killer

I just wanted to clarify something for everyone out their that laughs when a new MMO comes out and immediately after 1 week scoff and mock it saying "the wow killer" that you guys are so so so silly + goofballs...do you really think an MMO will topple WoW over night? its just not gonna happen. WoW didn't topple anything when it first came out in fact it took it a few expansions to become very popular. So I just wanna say that the WoW killer is already out their...hiding int he bushes....ready to stab it in the back when the time comes

WoW will die from a thousand little cuts. Most will be self-inflicted.

This is a pointless thread unless you have a candidate in mind that you would share with us. Even then, it's probably pointless.

The thing that people tend to forget is that the principal audience for any MMO out there that has ideas about taking a bite out of Blizzard is the audience that is playing WoW right now. If anyone really had a shot to bring massive amounts of new players to MMO's generally it would have been SW:TOR and we know that that didn't happen and is pretty unlikely now.

Long-time players have invested a lot of themselves in their mains and for most people it really is a one-game at a time thing if you're paying a monthly fee. Personally I think Trion is doing a good job of updating Rift but so far there's not much happening there in terms of growth. I guess time will tell. But if Blizzard ever feels really threatened, they can outspend just about anyone else on development and content and that matters too.

    So share.

WoW didn't need a single expansion to blow all the other MMO's out of the water. It had already reached more than 7 million players by the time tBC hit.

Basically, no other developer has been able to integrate the smoothness, wide availability, easy access, laid back content, massive world, hardcore content, bleeding edge features that could possibly compete with WoW. There's a reason Blizzard released content patches almost bi-monthly during Vanilla and it was to make sure WoW quickly overshadowed it's competitors in all departments. Rift tried to do the same but stagnated at a period WoW was at 6 years ago.

WoW is Currently being awesome with MoP and here comes another WoW-doomsday prophecy.
    I thought I did, but apparently I don't

If you die you die but if you don't die you still die.

Not even a year ago, you stated with conviction that Star Wars: The Old Republic would 'put WoW down', and that WoW was 'garbage'. You even berated other people when they tried to tell you otherwise. Recently you made a thread saying how displeased you were with Mists of Pandaria so far, and "what WoW has become", and it seemed to me like you were on the verge of unsubscribing.

I could respond to and correct the points you've brought up here, but what's the point? You won't listen, you never do. I will say though, that if the 'WoW killer' is out there, why aren't you playing it instead of posting on these forums? If you're so sick of WoW, why are you here in the WoW section of MMO Champion? Now, it's fine if you have grievances with particular aspects of the game, but your own post history shows you've had almost nothing but contempt for it overall, for the past year that you've been a member.

Am I out of line for saying all of this? Is it just me who's noticed it?

There's already a WoW killer out there. He's called Greg Street.

    What?

WoW will remain in history as the biggest subscription game ever. I don't think there will ever be anything remotely closed to it. It's just one of those things that appeared at the right time.

“Kill” is a strong word but, yes, he’s the game’s biggest problem. My only complaints about MoP see him as the root cause, while guys like Corey Stockton and Tom Chilton are doing a great job.

He can’t find the cause of a problem, badly treats the effect, then blames a mysterious (but silent) player group for the change to absolve himself. He likes to say the players should blame him for design decisions, but quickly deflects any criticism onto this ultra-casual group of players that, truthfully, I don’t believe exists.

The result can be seen all over the forums. Players aren’t different anymore, they’re either “casual scrubs” or “hardcore no-lifers” and never the two shall meet.

You’d think chasing off a third of the game’s current subscriber base (last count) would have been enough to get rid of him. The fact he’s survived either means he has compromising photographs of Mike Morhaime, or he’s simply a good deal less expensive to hire than a talented developer in a similar position.

And I think many people are just dumb if they think Ghostcrawler is some kind of dictator that is making all kind of "game-breaking" decisions by himself. It's hard to please everyone, and impossible to make everything perfect.

As for other talented game designers, maybe they should get James Ohlen instead.

I hate the "WoW Killer" term. I think you people on both sides of the fence are "Cutting off the nose to spite the face"

My prediction, NOBODY will be making MMOs anymore, because they will simply not be profitable. Just read this. http://www.forbes.com/sites/insertco...-from-bioware/ I wouldn't want to invest in any MMO comming out. And, don't think Blizzard is immune to this. Just look how Diablo was treated by the online community.

League of Legends was the wow killer. It's the new king of Online games.

But will wow die, maybe in 20 years from now, people like to play casual friendly and easy games. Not everyone after a tough day at school/college/work wants a challenging game to play.

If it was all about challenge they would be playing eve online, rift etc.

There actually is a WoW-killer out there, but it's not another game. It's the one that waits for everyone alike: old age

But when will the reaper make the final cut? Everyone's guess I suppose. Only time will tell

LoL has more player's... random chinese manga MMO's have 50milion + players... The only difference is the moddel pay per month or F2P-pay2win

True, but wow was always the easiest MMO on the market, I mean before it only had to compete with games like everquest which was a lot more grindy, then as easier games started to be released blizzard needed to make sure wow was still the easiest, unfortunately i think they dumbed it down way too much now.

Not according to a Nielson survey...

You know the guys that actually use scientific representative sampling with the right social stratification
    ..

WOW was played MORE than TWICE then LOL in that scientific survey.

It simply shows how far OFF those idiotic Xfire samples really are (also LOL can be freely downloaded from that website with Xfire pre installed, so worthless as a tool, it is like buying one kind of cola in a shop with only ONE brand of cola ... and then saying this cola sells the best everywhere else).

here is that list of most played PC games back at the start of 2012... BASED on some REAL scientific and representative samples... and coming from the biggest specialised buro in scientific surveys ...
