    Wheres my Mana??

My guild got the first 3 bosses down in Mogu'shan Vaults last night and WOW, talk about mana issues!!

Anyone else feeling like we have a much smaller relative mana pool? I can no longer re-apply dots at-will as procs pop without going oom much faster than I am used to.

I have to test, but I am wondering if I should either:

    a) stop re-applying so many dots
    b) still re-apply dots, but find a good time to use dispersion/hymn

I have a hunch the later option will be most effective, mostly because some of the procs are just too OP to ignore, and worth a few seconds of downtime in dispersion (especially if I can find an appropriate time and place to use it for DR each encounter).

As shadow, your mana regen comes from Vampiric Touch ticks. 2% per tick iirc.

If you're going to be multidotting, try putting a few VTs on them.

I always do both VT and SWP when multidotting. The problems come when I have 4 different procs I like to watch... I like to re-apply dots when I get a nice proc or two for the boost in dps. Problem is that I am using mana faster than I am gaining it, to the point of being oom before the fight is over. I managed to top DPS doing this, so it seems worth it. Never really had to deal with running out of mana before is all.

Perhaps try less talents that do procs? :P I don't know, I just enjoy not having to deal with Surge of Darkness AND Mind Blast Procs, I feel like having both is annoying. I prefer having one or the other. I've started using Mind bender for for that very reason, and plus it's a nice help with mana.

only difference is: mana doesn't scale with gear anymore.

Same, started using bender since leveling from 85, and man, what a great tool. Plus it mana regens. Also, we didn't get any bosses, but haven't had any mana issues at all with Halo on CD on Stone Guardians. Not to mention that I was wasting mana on reapplying when it wasn't really needed.

So long as you keep VT's rolling your mana should be fine even spamming Halo on cooldown (as you pretty much should). For both Dog Council and Feng I was even tossing out a Lot of heals to help out - and delaying Halos for after Overloads / Epicenters - and still didn't have too much mana trouble even rolling Renews on the raid during Epicenters for example.

It's all in the VT uptime - but you can also be using Dispersion to reduce the Overload and Epicenter damage you take dramatically - and that of course returns your mana as well.

Plus I use Shadow Octopus, but the proc talents shouldn't be a mana drain given they make your Mind Blasts and Mind Spikes free to cast when they proc - so really all those GCDs without spending mana should be good for your mana pool. My guess is you aren't keeping up VTs as well as you think you are?

Granted I've only tried the first boss so far, I had no problems with my mana while throwing out some heals as well and using Halo pretty much on cd. Just by putting VT on 2-3 dogs (for procs) I received 2.6 million mana on the longest try from VT only.

The only time I have mana problems is when aoeing on trash and they die too fast for VT to give mana back.

When everthing procs, roll face on keyboard and win. As long as you don't run out of mana.

Mana regen still scales with gear. Fixed mana pool isn't really a factor in going OOM.

Do you have a log of your fight? Everyone is just speculating on what you're doing wrong. Without logs, we can't pinpoint your problem.

Shadow doesn't regen mana from gear. Only healers have that.

I feel like I am doing it 'right' but then again, this is my first time progression raiding as a Shadow Priest. I raided on my warrior for the last few xpacs.

Let me know if you see anything you think I could do better in these logs--

More haste means faster VT ticks which boosts our mana regen. So yes, shadow does have mana regen from gear. Also mana is a total non-issue for shadow unless you're going really heavy on the AoE.

Mana becomes an issue for me when I go really heavy on dotting everything in sight (up to 5 targets). The raw dps output is pretty insane if you can keep dots up on 4-5 targets along with your regular MB/DP/SWD rotation.

If you have 4-5x VT up mana should be no problem - I only have a problem if I only have SW:P on mobs.
