Its not being elitist, tanking is really just that easy now days. Slap on some heirlooms, pull mass packs so you're healer and DPS'eres aint bored, and do 50% of all damage. I could have a much harder time doing good DPS while lvling than tanking.

Only thing thats easiere than tanking is healing while lvling. Now days healers quit OP damage, so atleast they can DPS while healing np now.
Again, this is a personal opinion. Not everyone finds x task as easy as you, especially if they are brand new to the game.

Unfortunately, on some servers, yes. Move servers, get a nice guild or just switch chat bubbles off and have your combat log open instead of party chat. Silence works for me

The community is its own worst enemy regarding tanks. A new player sees the class specialisation pop up at level 10 and thinks ooh, a hero shielding his allies from the enemies, I like the sound of that! Joins his first dungeon ready to withstand his enemy's blows with his mighty shield, and all he gets is "FFS green geared noob" "pull faster pls" "omg noob tank hurry up" "WTF learn to aggro retard". I bet there are many reading this who have said these things but won't admit it. Then they queue for a dungeon and are like "WTF where are the tanks". Well they gave up and rolled dps so they don't have to put up with those jerks.

But, no - not everyone is like this, Mr. OP. A friend and I spent over two and a half hours in heroic Deadmines near Cataclysm's launch because the bear tank started with "I'm new to tanking, go easy on me :-)". One person dropped group on the spot, and only the three of us completed the run after going through a further nine people. It's understood that's rare, but you'd be surprised with how decent people can actually be sometimes.

Spam Q (It's my hotkey for Keg Smash) and you just sit back, and watch a movie.

Warriors actually rely on other things. But then again, I haven't dungeoned past 40 as a warrior, never got the hang of it compared to every other tank.
We stopped searching for monsters under our beds when we realized that they were inside us.

Tell me something, my friend. You ever dance with the devil in the pale moonlight?

I think a big part of the problem is that there isn't a lot of opportunity to really learn how to tank while leveling. Players go crazy in the lower level dungeons because they can do it without dying. I remember while leveling my first healer I was frustrated that no-one followed what I had read about as their roles. When this happens there's not a lot of good experience at actually tanking things and holding threat.

If you'll indulge me I can offer a few tips.

Hotkey your mark target as a skull. Use it right before you charge so that players know your intent and are still not bored (because you do it quickly with the hotkey)

Know the order of threat generation for your abilties. That way when a dps is going crazy on a target you can still pull it off of him and hold it because you don't have to run through all your abilities before you hit one that really grabs their aggro.

Know what you can do to reduce your damage taken and also the damage on your group. It surprises me how often I run into warriors who aren't aware that they can instantly get 20% health back with victory rush (providing they have landed a killing blow of course).

Know or learn what your enemies are going to do. This can take time, but if you notice that a certain mob drops aggro constantly then you can tank it better.

Be able to spot who has aggro. I use the addon tidyplates+threatplates which can change the color of their nameplates when they target someone else than me, makes it easy to spot the stray mob. In the same vein target of target is very useful.

Try to move at a reasonable pace, if your healer is at 80% mana and the pulls aren't draining him dry each time then you should probably be good to charge into the next group. Even if dps is impatient, as long as you're not taking 30 needless seconds between each pull, they won't get too ancy.

Talk to your group. If you're having trouble holding aggro, ask them to hold off for a couple of seconds each pull so that you can keep them on you. Some will respond poorly, but I think a lot of players will respect your request.

Lastly, don't get discouraged. I leveled to max as a prot warrior doing nothing but tanking, but it was a learning process, and every now and then I'd run into people who I just couldn't keep threat off of. If you can do nothing but keep threat off the healer then you're doing fine.

Thanks for listening to my ramblings, best of luck.

oh, I guess that wasn't quite the answer to your question. Sometimes people can be mean and rude. That being said, there are a lot of people who are happy to help you out if you ask, saying hey I'm not very experienced at tanking yet, any advice on how to do things better would be appreciated.

So you are OK calling random dungeons PvE, but you aren't OK calling random BGs PvP. Do I smell double standards?

You can still get into problems when 3 dps are pulling for you and are being stupid. Your taunts and AoE skills can be on cooldown while they go crazy.

Yesterday I had two monks in my group for vortex pinnacle (normal). One was tanking other one was healer and they both did equal or higher damage than the 3 dps.
When things like this are possible I just think by myself that there is something wrong with the game. Or, how can there be such a huge difference between players in such a simple game. One healer does top dps without letting anyone die and the other healer lets people die constantly. Heirlooms or not that doesn't really matter. I was playing without heirlooms and I was still doing good damage.

All tanks are faceroll. Some maybe more than others :P. I have tanked with all classes except druids just a few times and never with monks. It was kinda challenging before they buffed threat with 300% again but after that you could just throw in two AoE spells and you were done.

I also remember tanking multiple mobs with a warrior during TBC. Once you have done that you will think monks are for 10 year olds.
