Arena help?

So its week one of arena I was just playing with a buddy for fun but we were getting owned, I was on my Shadow Preist he was on his DK were both decent players not great average iLVL 445 gear not alot of pvp gear yet. Here's my question does pvp gear make a huge differnece now? Also can a shadow priest that having a lot of success give me some pointers? Thanks

Pvp power does A LOT of difference to your damage, pressure and therefor your survivability. Do some Bg's and get the season 12 4-set bonus and gem for PVP power as the gems are retardedly over scaled atm. 1 Gem PVP power = 1 part of season 12 gear almost.
