Why is my FPS so low on WOW MOP even I got good brand new cpu.

With my video card, I should be running easily 60 fps on ultra setting but last night I tried MOP for first time and Im running on high and I only get 20 to 30 fps. Is that NEW normal for wow mop or something wrong with my video card?

I would like to hear your feedback to see if there's any way I can fix it? Thanks!

Most likely it is an outdate mod that is causing CPU usage and capping the FPS.

MoP does have a lot of graphical improvements, so if you are playing on Ultra, the draw distance is quite far, so your FPS will drop to around 30 or so depending on where you are looking but should be upwards of 60 other times.

Disable all mods and reenable until you find what one it is, most likely Altas Loot.

Where in the game world are you experience these frame rates?

My PC is a little bit more powerful than yours(nvidia 680 with the same cpu) most of the time out in the world I get a steady 60 fps but in capitals or anywhere with a ton of players I get significant drops to 30-40fps. Once in a while I will get a huge drop in org to 20 fps but generally it is pretty good. Contrary to what some people seem to think wow is a pretty demanding game at max settings.

I've noticed that it's the view distance that's causing massive FPS drop on my end. After some research people said, they increased the distance on all tiers of the options (low fair good etc).

Sounds like u should be getting a bit more fps than that.

First thing I'd do is get the latest bios for your pc and install the latest drivers for your Asrock mb. Then overclock the cpu to 4.0Ghz cause u have a good cooler and it won't be a problem running it at 4.0Ghz (u can go higher too).

Next get the latest driver from amd's site (no the beta or previous driver) for your 7870.

Then open the Amd control center and set everything to application controlled, Force Vsync to always on, and everything else should be set to Performance not Quality.

Then in the game set everything to ultra, dx11 and enable vsync. Also uncheck the max foreground and max background fps options under the Adanced Graphical options in Wow and see how the game runs.

If you're getting low fps still then try lowering MSAA from 8x (antialiasing) to 4x or 2x. This is main frame killer but it makes the game look better and smoother.

It's hard to know for sure but:

The other night after the Tuesday reset I was getting extremely low frame rates...like 2...or 3 in the inn at Dawn's Blossom. This was the first time that had happened ever basically in something like 6 years. I checked my addons and they were all up-to-date.

So I exited and went out to NVIDIA's web site and sure enough, I was a couple of updates behind on video card drivers. Updated those and 20 minutes later was back in the game and back at my usual 50-65 FPS. This is not a guarantee that there wasn't something going on with the game or my ISP or anything else but it's one of those things that people forget because NVIDIA at least (and I would assume ASUS as well) updates drivers all the freaking time, sometimes every week.

Check addons first though. 90% of the time that it. After that, check drivers.

First step - make sure you're running the 64bit client.

Then get the addon LoadIt (or similar) and disable every other addon. Re-enable, one by one, to see if one of your addons is screwing you over. For me, there was OptiTaunt, QuestCompletist and VisualCombatTable (all 3 were giving me some issues).

Other addons, like Auctioneer suite, should really only be enabled (via LoadIt!) for characters that use the AH often. For others, you can just set a profile up to enable/disable it when you actually want it.

I run a solid 60FPS in Stormwind (not overly populated, admittedly) on Ultra@1920x1200 and approximately 70% GPU load. It varies with the number of characters, so I generally keep shadows on High instead of Ultra and it drops to around 55-60% load. (i7 920@4Ghz/GTX470@800Mhz)

I'm in the same boat with you OP, my performance took a hit after patch 5.0 and hasn't been the same since. I'm not running the same CPU as you (Phenom x4 955) but I do have a 7870 (MSI Hawk) and I refuse to buy that the issues are hardware related. I'm lucky if I get 35-40 FPS in Jade Forest anywhere.

I pretty much have the same computer spec wise except I have the i5 3550 he should be getting at least 50 to 90 fps with everything maxed if he leaves vsync off but yeah the 7870 is a beast it does about 70 fps in gw2 everything maxed.

Also see if there's a wow profile for your drivers, I haven't messed with custom profiles but a lot of people had to use them to get decent fps in gw2

It's 100% an add-on.

As soon as the xpac hit i took a massive drop down to 20fps in the cities. I logged off and disabled all add-ons and then bam, back to 50+ in Org. I then just enabled the add-ons one by one till i found the d bag causing the issues. It turns out it was power auras.

With that build you shouldn't have ANY problem at all, even with the "graphical" enhancements with MOP you're still WAY above par. My build is as followed and I stay at 60+.

Edit: I'd agree with what's said so far, I'd download a decent registry fixer like Glary Utilities, to help out with all the mess a computer can make. I'd also advise getting a good malware scanner like Malware Bytes, because spyware/adware and such can really slow down a PC. I'd get those if you don't already have something like them. Other than that as everyone else said, out of date mods, and use the 64 bit version of WoW. WoW is still more CPU intensive than anything, and the 3570k with turbo boost hops up to like 3.8ghz which is well over enough to handle it, and the 7870 is really overkill for something like this so that should fix it.

Im having the same problems on my new laptops ive tried all this and nothing really helps except turning graphics to low...

Not saying your system is bad, but the CPU clock is likely your biggest issue. As far as I'm aware, an i3-3220 @ 3.3ghz would run wow better than an i7-3740 @ 2.7ghz.

Normally I'd say OC might help.. But I would never recommend OC'ing an laptop without knowing it inside and out first, and it's thermal setup.

Yea thats what i figured im thinking about OC,ing to 3.2ghz my laptop has a pretty good cooling setup id probly open it up first n get some thermal paste in there. I might just wait it out tho im building a new PC currently this is just a laptop.

Never ever anybody should force options from driver settings, especially not on AMD cards. It causes so many mysterious graphics glitches and game crashes that it's simply not worth it.


One big thing nobody suggested yet is try to put both vsync and triple buffering ON from the game. Sometimes it glitches and drops FPS significantly if those aren't set the same.

It probably gets to 3.3 GHz in turbo mode while using all cores and you can keep it at that speed as long as the cooling is decent.

No reason he should have to turn down his distance to good, that's something that was more common in TBC, maybe WotLK... but now that WoW is so much older and we have Sandy and Ivy Bridge CPU architecture and Kepler/Tahiti GPUs, WoW is a joke, at least in the distance department.

I'd stick with turning down shadows, and maybe SSA, but it's been so long since I've played WoW, I can't recall what SSA is.

From what I've heard, I have a feeling it's the trees murdering peoples' computers.
