    Metro 2033

Anyone pick it up when it was on sale yesterday? Been liking it a lot so far, feels kind of like the STALKER games with an actual plot and purpose. I guess by this point all the bugs that people were bashing the game for when it was originally released have been cleared up, because after forcing vsync (which for some reason INCREASES framerates and stability) and boosting the field of view, it's pretty nice.

Not particularly scary, but I don't think it's really possible to have a scary game where the player can actually defend himself. Hard to be scared of monsters when a shotgun can deal with them adequately.

I bought it a while back when it was on sale and I agree with you as its really not scary. One thing I didn't like about this game was how linear it was which kinda got boring for me.

Easily one of my favorite FPS games. The setting is really breathtaking when you see how much detail is put into the game world. I am absolutely in love with it. I agree, that it isn't scary (except for those damn Librarians, ugh), but I don't think that it's meant to be, exactly. Can't wait for the sequel.

Metro 2033 was on sale like 3434-times for 2.49€...

It's pretty awesome and I enjoyed it. It just frustrated me that they start so many story threads and then never bother to wrap them up or bring them to any conclusion at all, not even a "to be continued!" type conclusion. That and the painfully bad voice acting on some of the characters part (I HAD THE KIDS VOICE ACTOR! DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE)...yeah. Totally worth it on sale though. It just feels like they had a lot more planned but had to rush the game out the door so they cut away like, 1/3-1/2 of the remaining game to get it out on time : /

I've been playing through with Russian voice. If English isn't the native language it's probably a mistake to use it over the native language of the developers.

Use the superior Russian voice acting, makes the whole storytelling aspect of the game A LOT better. You don't play Japanese games with English voices when you're able to play with the original voices now do you!?
It depends, in an FPS, you've not always got a chance to stare at subtitles in the middle of a shoot out. Where as most JP games people play with subtitles, due to them being RPGs/adventures.

Why would you want to stare at subtitles while playing Metro? Wait, don't tell me you still haven't leared Russian.
That's why you need me.... Need someone to punish you for your sins.

I'd agree that it isn't really scary.
The setting is kinda like Stalker. At least the monsters kind of reminds me of it.
Playing hardcore ranger mode makes it feel easier for some reason, cause you can just shoot the gorillas for 2-3 headshots with a revolver and they'd die. Saves a lot of ammo =\

HOW COULD YOU. (Russian VA is seriously awesome, makes Artium sound like a badass).
You have to change it in options during the title screen, not when you're already in game, which took me a while to figure out =\
Took a while for dal to notice too.

I saw a screenshot of one of the mutants... I think it was called a "Dark One" or something.

I can't look at that game, I am LITERALLY afraid of that game. I hear people say it's a good game.. HOW CAN THEY PLAY THAT GAME?! It scares me. It could be because I'm a girl but... Oh my god... that SCREENSHOT.... THAT SCREENSHOT...

Also, please no one post a screenshot to this thread. I want to come back and see the replies but PLEASE DON'T POST A SCREENSHOT...

I picked it yup when it first went on sale back in the beginning of the year, Played it for a max of 2 hours. Not a bad game, looks really nice too. I should finish playing it. But I don't have enough time right now between all of the other games I am playing.

I enjoyed it, definitely worth picking it up when it's on sale which it is pretty much every sale now. Although I didn't find it particularly scary or anything.

The sequal, Metro:Last Light will be out in the first quarter of 2013 I think, looking forward to it.

I liked just about everything, besides from the library level (The librarians and I didn't get along) and Artyom's english VA, he sounds like such a wimp!

Restarted on ranger hardcore after basically getting stuck in the reactor core without any ammo. Apparently you can destroy the things that spawn the little blobs so you don't have to dump a crapton of ammo on them. Also, your cash bullets are no longer useful as cash past like halfway through the game, though no one tells you that or even insinuates it. Thanks, game. Stupid NPC escort crap...

At any rate, ranger hardcore doesn't feel any more difficult than regular hardcore and you can easily check your ammo and magazine by simply pressing T to bring up the watch, which brings up the entire inventory UI. Seems like one hell of an oversight for what's supposed to be a "complete immersion" mode.

I was insanely annoyed that the guns actually require mechanics to use. None of them are just 'put ammo in and fire'. They all have their quirks - at least anything other than the basic pistol, anyway. Drives me insane. I spend far too much time focusing on making sure I'll be able to fire into the fray when the time comes, when I'd rather be enjoying the game itself.

All of the rifles are spray and pray. The automatic shotguns have a slightly unusual reloading mechanic but just holding down R will ensure you fully reload them. None of the pneumatic weapons are good for prolonged fights so most of the time you're just gonna overpressure them right before sending an arrow into the back of someone's head, and then swap back to something else.

I did find it unusual that they were such sticklers for realism on the automatic shotgun loading cycle but the revolver apparently comes with an unlimited number of speedloaders that are always ready to go.
