    Das Boot - Director's Cut

It's gripping, it's 3.5 hours long. It will pummel German into your skull like a Prussian drill Sargent.

Use games with a text interface instead. You don´t actively use the language when watching movies, and the subtitles could just be plain wrong
    "Only Jack can zip up."
The word you want to use is "have" not "of".
You may have alot of stuff in your country, but we got Lolland.

As a german i can tell you that EVERY damn movie out there is available in german. Seems we have a good synchronizing industry.
I am not sure tho if you can blend in english subtitles when watching in german.

I have to agree that German dubs are really good. I have been speaking and watching stuff in Deutsch for 14 years, but i can't think of a German movie to recommend...

Well, if you like to watch german movies and don't want to watch dubbed versions:

    Das Wunder von Bern
    http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Das_Wunder_von_Bern
Movie about soccer, which may sound boring, but it's not. It's a good movie.

    Anatomie
    http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anatomie_%28Film%29
    Really creepy suspense/thriller.

    Comedian Harmonists
    http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comedia...sts_%28Film%29
Movie about a german band prior to WW II.

    Papa ante portas
    http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pappa_ante_Portas
Loriot was always good for a laugh and his use of german language was part of his humor.

what you should know is, that german dub is sometimes not very good (resident evil 2 ...). if you want good dubs go for animated films, german movies and A movies.
German dub is really amazing most of the time, so much, that everything sub par stands out like a sore thumb.

We have a ton of dedicated dub voiceactors, many of whom only take minor parts + one hollywood actor, who they stick with until one of them dies (sadly happened to Will Smith's original dub actor, who died around the MIB 2 time, the new one just doesn't ooze the same amount of cool, although he really tries).

Bad German dub really is the rare exception.

OT: Good movies that aren't already mentioned:

A lot of Hollywood dubs, really.

I personally really like the German voice for Tom Hanks (much more than his real one, sue me^^), fits the character more, so I recommend "Forrest Gump" and "Catch Me If You Can".

I also recommend The Lord Of The Ring movies, they do a really great job with the German dub there (especially the actors of Gandalf, Saruman and Frodo got great dub actors, that stick with them until this day, as far as I know).

German movies: "Der Eisbär" for something silly with action and young Til Schweiger.

"Die Fetten Jahre Sind Vorbei" for a rather thoughtful movie (same main actor as "Good Bye Lenin").

"Der Baader-Meinhof Komplex" for a historical movie about the RAF (German left-wing terrorists).

"Lambock" for a really funny and interesting movie about selling weed starring young Moritz Bleibtreu.

I can also highly recommend the TV 4-parter "Die Manns, Ein Jahrhundertroman", about the family Mann (mainly Thomas Mann, the great German novelist, played by the insanely talented [one of the best actors in the world, in my opinion] Armin Müller-Stahl).

Out of the already mentioned ones: "Das Leben Der Anderen" (brilliant, need to see this if your German is good enough), "Lola Rennt" (really great) and "Good Bye Lenin" (great mix of historical + funny + thoughtful) are really something you shouldn't miss.

My personal favourite german movies are the kinski/herzog classics like "Aguirre", "Fitzcarraldo", "Nosferatu" and "Woyzeck". Very recommandable, you'll love Kinski, a very impressive actor

after that you can enjoy the amazing documentary "Mein liebster Feind" about kinski/herzog.

apart from that there are many very good german movies, "M - eine stadt sucht einen mörder" one of the first talkies by pioneer filmer Fritz Lang is the best rated on the IMDB and very recommandable, over 80 years old, this film is still ahead of its time, dealing with the death penalty. my last recommendation will be "die brücke", the best anti war movie I know, its about a few german boy soldiers in the second world war.

    enjoy.

cause they are often really bad and censored so that sometimes almost all of the original meaning is lost -> a good example there is naruto so much censoring so much changed just getting sad from even a couple of minutes of watching it (ah and amlost forgot most times the german voice actors for anmie dont fit at all not one tiny bit) -> prefer to watch it in japanese with english subtitles

Edit: I´m german just to say
Thanks for that awesome signature i4ni

Then better go with the TV movie "Staufenberg" starring Sebastian Koch, an absolutely amazing movie, much closer to the historical facts and with a lot of great German acting talent, Sebastian Koch is amazing in this role.

Maybe you can find it online, or you could buy it from ARD.

You shouldn't watch Norwegian dubbed either, you should watch Japanese , anything else butchers the anime most of the time. (really not trying to bash you, just suggesting and stating what I have found watching dubs over the years) The Japanese versions get everything right, the other languages will always just be trying to make something similar, but never getting the perfection of the original version.

OT: I have no suggestions but am just adding to the topic to say that I am also interested in these movies, since I'm learning German this year. So keep those suggestions coming you magnificent people.

A masterpiece of Austrian comedy and the best way to learn the "noble" accent of Vienna.

I guess you won't need that though Most suggestions in this thread are sufficient anyways.
