Tips and Tricks: Leveling a Mage

Hello,

I'd like to swap my main to a mage. Havent lvled one yet, I'd like to lvl it to 90 as fast as possible - do you have some tricks and tips for leveling? Specs/gimmicks, everything :-) Thank you very much for answers...

Frost is by far the best spec for leveling. Frozen Orb and Glyph of Icelance are going to be your best friends. The cleave damage is outrageous and aoe'ing packs down is reasonably easy.

Thing is you almost never AOE when you level. If you are level smartly and quickly through questing, you will almost exclusively be chain killing single quest mobs for maximum efficiency. All 3 specs have absolutely more than enough survivability to live through and escape almost any hectic questing situation. Low cooldown burst is really what you want to be looking for, so you can get through the quests faster than the people advocating spamming frost novas and shields.

If you level smartly by questing you will almost always be pulling every single quest mob in sight, freezing them and then using Frost Orb >_>
That's far more efficient than killing them one by one.

frosties kinda suck till 62.. then they get frozen orb.. and thus we rule... then we rule all the way to 85.. just dont pull too much and die before your cds run out.

as the above advice suggests .. glyph of ice lance works best..it'll be your first major glyph.... remember to make a macro for your pet freeze and watch your nova cds at all times... frost is about control.. and not getting meleed by mobs.

you will be using frozen armor btw.. or molten armor before that.. most likely.

watch aggro when you use frozen orb.. you dont get mirror images tilll high lvls so if u pull with it in dungeons beware.

My questing strategy:

Ice lance everything in sight. Kite them into a nice tight group. Pet freeze + Frozen Orb + Frost bomb = Dead. Easy stuff.

Frost bomb explosion alone isnt really enough even with shatter atleast not at my level 86. Still needs more aoe though i suggest start channeling blizzard after the explosion or spam arcane explosion.

That's what frozen orb and ice lance cleaves are for
