    White flash between webpage loading

So I have a cold and took some medicine that I think caused my eyes to dilate. Everything is painfully bright so I turned down the brightness settings of my monitor and turned off or shutout any other light in my room.
This is fine, but anytime I load/refresh a web page (any page) there's always a brief painfully bright white flash before the page appears that blinds me.
Is there a default setting in either chrome or Firefox that I can adjust to black or at-least a dark blue in between load times? -Thanks : )

You can do it on firefox.

Hit up options -> content -> colors (in fonts+colors) -> background: (pick color) -> uncheck "use system colors" -> OK

Give it a spin to see if it works.
