I hate to bring up bad news, but with a 450W PSU you have little to no room for overclocking. Overclocking aside, congrats on your first build! Be sure to post pictures in the computer forum thread "Post your gaming setup!" as we love seeing pictures.

..because hyperthreading is a waste when you are doing mostly gaming. Only a small handful of games utilize it, and those that do are poorly optimized for it to begin with. The result being that most people turn off hyperthreading to solve a consist stutter experienced in most games that do in fact support hyperthreading. Turn off hyperthreading on an i7-3770k and the result is an i5-3750k. The same goes with an i7-2600k and the i5-2500k.

In the end, why pay more when you aren't going to use it? This is why the general consensus on this forum for gaming is to buy the i5-3750k where the budget is appropriate.

There is absolutely no difference between the two when used for gaming, its just a waste of money.

Thanks! I've done research for this, shows that this is a very solid 450W (80+ gold certified) and will have no problem handling my system, and planty room for upgrade as well. unless I want to do SLI or something...Also I won't OC now as I don't need to, this can handle games

it's a combo discount so basically it is $215. Also as reason stated above I don't need i7...

Congrats! If you have not yet assembled I wish you luck!

My first build I ruined...and had to RMA the mobo/cpu and the second time I had to spend some hours researching why it wouldn't boot. It is often such a simple problem but in the thick you may miss the forest for the trees.

Let us know if we can help...other than vid card and case we have a comparable build so enjoy!

He'd still have ~100w headroom left for OC'ing

You bet! Best bit of advice I can offer is to put cpu/heatsink on before installing mobo. Also when putting in the mobo stands to the case never assume and measure to ensure you have they line up with the mobo to ensure you don't short it out. Just take your time and you will be rewarded.

Also it could just be me but fear not if you think the video card will break before it slots in...I have that fear everytime I build and I have built over 20 computers in my day. Course that could just me being an oaf...

This sub-forum is for people who need help, not to post your newly purchased computer. We have a megathread where you can post your setup once it has been assembled:

    Closing this.
