They became friends in The Shattering. A decent read, but a shame all the massively important events there are hardly mentioned in game.
They met each other on Theramore, when Anduin was there and Baine asked Jaina for help against the Grimtotem coup. Baine even used for a while the Fearbreaker, a mace that Anduin gave to him (returned back during the Theramore's Fall event).
Think thats bad you actually have to quest with him as a hordie in karasang wild
i was thinking to myself am i really letting myself do this why dont i just hand him over to garrosh and he will make me a general LOL
It was one book pawl. They're basically the newer Alliance Horde vie for peace friendship generation. Last one was Jaina Proudmoore and Thrall. Now it's Anduin and Baine.

Yeah you need to do some outside reading to keep up to date on all the lore. I don't mind little bits like this being in books and I don't know why one or two people are kicking up a fuss about this. Baine and Anduin met and they became friends. Hardly ground breaking stuff that will alter the lore in any significant shape. That's what you missed out on OP.
There is also a mention of Baine and Anduin friendship in Tides of War novel. But of course, The Shattering explains it much in detail.
Either read the books or read wowpedia.
This isn't something new and has been old news for the past 2 years.
