But why wouldn't they want to try to land in Kun-Lai, say, to the east of the Xuen's temple?

Yes, yes, mechanical reasons mostly, Krasarang was basically designed to have all this unused space that can be rolled into the 5.1 stuff, but in practical terms, it's just hard to comprehend why the Horde and Alliance would a) go to the farthest possible point to land and b) would just be very gentile apparently and say "well, let's both land and we'll fight then".
Kun-Lai has lots of sheer cliffs and narrow mountain paths to deal with. Advancing into Pandaria from Kun-Lai summit is very impractical and anyone attacking the beachead could do so from higher ground, I imagine the only reason the Zandalari even attempted it was because of the Thunder King, and even then it didn't really work out well for them. Anything west of the wall is straight out due to the Mantid, and Jade Forest has lots of it's own sheer cliffs along it's northern and eastern shores.

Krasarang on the other hand is barely above sea level, allowing the factions to establish powerful beachheads without exposing themselves. While there is the cliff wall between the Wilds and the Valley of the Four Winds, it's pretty far inland and there are much wider passes around it.
Remember the lessons of the past, but do not become lost in nostalgia. Seize the moment whenever possible, but not when it could do you great harm down the road. And look to the future as far as you can, but do not become complacent waiting for a brighter future to come to you. For the past, present, and future all have their place in the human psyche, and to see one as superior to the others is the most grievous error a person can make in life.

First, don't argue geography, it's already been hinted that nothing is what it seems due to leylines and other magical forces altering location climate. This is why you have "hot" places like Durotar right next to "cold" climates like Azshara, or why Hyjal is moderate while Winterspring, at a lower altitude, is snowy. Don't even get me started on places like Shalozar Basin.

Second, the reason the Horde and Alliance is moving into Krasarang is political and strategic. Remember, Garrosh and Varian want to subvert the Pandaren to join them, not displace them.

Krasarang is the only zone (on the good side of the wall) in which the Pandaren don't have a huge population, as it's filled with Saurok and Mogu. The only place of general population are the Angler villages and the Red Crane Temple. Jade Forest was already a political disaster, so they can't really further displace that region as it has one of the larger Pandaren populations outside of Four Winds. Kun'Li would have been possible, but it's sheer cliffs make it hard to navigate, and the lowlands is filled with Pandaren villages already licking wounds from the Zandalari. Dread Wastes would be suicide with the Mantid forces, and Townlong would be just as volatile with Mantid and Yuangol.

So really, Krasarang became the best option to form a real beachhead.
