    Legalized pot question.

I'd like to play devil's advocate on individual states legalizing pot (though personally I support this being a state-issue).
Would it mean that individual state should be able to ban alcohol?

From my knowledge Mormons and Muslims abstain from alcohol, so in a state with majority of either of them, it would be a possibility for such a ruling.

This is more of a theoretical question, doesn't look like it would actually gain mass support in any state currently, but would you support state having the choice to outlaw all alcohol?

edit: sorry, meant for offtopic forum, could it be moved?

why not just make every single a state another country ? and make " ameria or the united states" a continent ? since in your logic their making their own rules anyway.

this doest belong in wow general.

as for outlawing alcohol, you could try that. but it will only result in criminals selling it and causing more trouble then it would be if alcohol is legal.

Why does that sound so familiar?

What? I didn't see much there that made any sense in reply to what he said
He's talking about the fact there are some states wanting to legalize pot, and so, if they can legalize it, can other states ban things such as alcohol, i think it's a perfectly reasonable question, It's not "his logic" it's the way it's working out, Different states have different laws, if you didn't know that already then you need to start reading, fast

Ok, according to the news, a couple states have actually legalized marijuana? damn, didn't see that happening, Bu ti guess there is still alot of red tape to go and stuff untill it actually gets sold
I know in Holland where they banned it from being sold to tourists, have now gona back and said that they can, i gues they realized why everyone goes to holland lol, Sex and drugs ofc

I think both prostitution and Marijuana should be legal everywhere, they are things that are not very harmful, (pot ok you can say, but nothing compared to alcohol) And it would bring in more money for the goverment, less money for illegal purposes and more safety to those selling themselves

It is still illegal for tourists to buy, the thing they changes is that a Dutch person has to get registered to be able to buy it (which was impossible for foreigners). This was only for a little bit in the south of the Netherlands. Now it is so that you have to be able to show a Dutch ID.

However, the major of at least Amsterdam and Utrecht have already stated that they won't enforce it. Which basically means that it is now up to what kind of major is in charge. For Amsterdam though, it will probably always be a very liberal guy.

I don't believe all drugs should be legal, just the ones with minimal risk. Weed, Alcohol and the like. cigarettes should be illegal when you compare it to weed..

The problem with having alcohol illegal versus having marijuana illegal is that illegally made alcohol can cause people to die. Illegally made marijuana is almost as effective and if it's not it just makes you angry because nothing is happening. But people that have no idea how to make alcohol can kill other people.

For instance there are dry countys and there is the problem of having drunks driving from a dry county to a wet county to buy more booze and causing accidents on the way. There are no clear solutions to it.

I do agree a general public ban on alcohol would undoubtably improve the world, but the ramifications for not replenishing the demand leads to counterfeit creation, deaths, and people traveling farther distances sometimes while drunk to get it. It's also a huge tax benefit for government. It's a tough sale.

Wow, people really don't understand the question. He's not asking if you want weed legalized, or want alcohol legalized, or the implications of those decisions.

He's asking "Given that States can apparently legalize marijuana, does it therefore mean that a state could try to make alcohol illegal."

I guess I would say yes, they can certainly try. There are already states (or even counties) there it is illegal to purchase Alcohol at certain times of the week or day. Likewise there are some states (and counties) that ban certain types of firearms that would otherwise be legal to own. I don't see why alcohol would be any different. They could certainly try to ban it on the state level.

Ya I'm sure they could try and ban it in their state. Don't see why they couldn't. It would be pretty comical to watch as they drove out a major source of tax income. But hey, LA is doing the exact same thing right now to the porn industry which will cost them a billion dollar industry if they pull up roots and move out of LA county.

States have been banning alcohol since long before the 18th amendment and kept at it long after the 21st amendment. There aren't any states that ban alcohol state wide, but there are still a lot of cities and counties that have prohibition or heavy restrictions on the sale of alcohol in effect.

If prohibiting pot over the argument that "most people don't like it" is ok, the same argument should be valid to alcohol. Not sure if that was your question. (sorry, my english skills are not really good...)

Generally the biggest problem with making ANYTHING illegal is the false idea that it would cause it to go away...

Guns outlawed = only outlaws have guns (was a shooting in Cali yesterday for example)
Drugs outlawed = forces people to become criminals if they want (or need) to take a drug

People are going to follow the law if they want, or break it if they want. It's called free will, and any idea to ban the existence of anything in hopes of trying to get rid of it is futile.

States could ban alcohol if they wanted, but nobody is crazy enough to try running on that platform. There are a bunch of dry counties here where you can go to jail for just having it.

Doubt we will ever see anyone go dry. It is just not smart.
