WoW Age Restriction Too Low? [Videos and Pictures inside!]

I made a list of as much things I could possibly find that are without debate not appropiate for a 12+ game I will list all of them here with screens and videos as a prove.

    1. Sexual Content

"Temple Concubine, Charming Courtesan and Mother Shahraz"

It's quite obvious what they are and this here is a TCG artwork..

Alexstrasza being a slex/breeding slave is official lore

    http://www.wowwiki.com/Grim_Batol
"During the Second War, Grim Batol was the center of all refining operations for the Horde's navy. It was also the main base of the Horde's dragon breeding program, where Alexstrasza the Red was kept captive and forced to produce red dragons to be used as mounts for orc dragonriders."

This pictures are just hanging around in some buildings....

http://www.wowwiki.com/In-jokes_and_references/emotes for all the sexual references in emotes

Goldshire, the most horrible place for a minor. People are doing cybersex there and usually a roleplayer also got roleplay addons so this is free to see for a child. And this here are just mild character descriptions there are much worse ones...

    Vibrator Items really?!
    http://www.wowhead.com/item=49917/br...leasure-device

Succubus quotes and the demon in general don't need any explanation I guess.

I could add a lot more here I guess. I might do soon.

    2. Gore/Mature Language

Now we come to the gore and mature language thing. Lets start with the most cruel one.

You crush the skulls of helpless humans with a shovel while they scream in fear and their head explodes in a fountain of blood.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=czf_RJGpaJ4
    http://www.wowhead.com/quest=28189/d...thing#comments

Abominations are these really okay for a 12+ game? I don't think so.

Thaddius Lore:"Thaddius, built from the flesh of women and children, it is said that their souls are fused together - eternally bound within that foul prison of flesh."
    http://www.wowwiki.com/Thaddius
Along with the loud, painful screams and moans in Naxx...yeah its fun to traumatize childs right?

The famous Karazhan Crypts as far as I know they've not turned it into a raid/dungeon just because its not right for a game for 12+...HOWEVER! This is still in the game and accessable! Drowned corpses hanging from hooks underwater in detail and with open wounds!
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SiKNh9sNpm8

Garrosh quote: "Shut your clever mouth, Bitch!" 3:00 on the video.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5jIGIJtKCh4

Corpse Explosion way too much detail in my opinion for an ability like this.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l8tTA5hJxaw

I will post more for this part later too, for example a quest text where an forsaken woman calls her still living sister a "Whore" in just the second word of the quest text.

In my opinion this game needs AT LEAST 16+ age limit

I think you'd be surprised what a 12 year old knows/does. Also, TV ratings allow much worse things to be shown than what you showed.

ultimately this thread is a coverup for a rant about there being too many children in WoW these days, and while I somewhat agree, the "maturity" of WoW's content Isn't to blame, I watched R rated movies since I was 6, and I am completely fine by normal standards.

The problem is those kids' lack of maturity themselves, showing callous disregard for others, and also lacking a proper understanding of the game's core mechanics, which is why I don't think they should play this game.

Sexuality? Blood and Gore? Have you SEEN what a 12 year old kid likes these days?

You know they'd sooner remove all those things than raise the age restriction right? Careful what you wish for. Regardless, I completely disagree with you.

bumping up the age aint going to do jack-diddly-squat

mainly because its not the kids buying/paying for subs

the thaddius/kara crypts are hidden really well and add tons of atmosphere to WoW

the rest get a laugh out of me because i have a sense of humor

Regarding Goldshire, all ratings specifically mention that online interactions are not rated.

12 year olds have access to the Internet where you can get all the pornography and graphic images you want. I recall a survey done by the BBC said around 40% of 7 Year olds + have a Computer in their room with un-restricted Internet Access.

The Blizzard-made stuff is well within the confines of what a T rating allows.

As for the descriptions, "online experience not rated by ESRB," I believe, is the disclaimer. Because Blizzard can't be held accountable for everything the game's users do.

Nothing negative is going to happen to a 12 year old if they see any of those things. Nothing.

Are you one of those guys that watches tv and listens to radio with a clipboard, and records every inappapropriate comment so you can write a complaint letter?

  12. #12
It's rated T for Teen. The ESRB directly states what content is in the game on the packaging, and more detailed information is available on their website. It's a parent's job to decide if the game is too "mature" for their children.
So... no. The rating is fine.

I think someone spends a little too much time Goldshire on Moonguard.

I have a feeling the OP is just playing devil's advocate. Kids are getting exposed to things earlier and earlier. Let it happen, it's only natural. Our own bodies are physically maturing at an earlier rate thanks to hormones in our food etc. It's only expected the mind mature faster as well.

Not to mention none of the things you've referenced were even that mature. Pretty basic things compared to what can be found out there. I'd say wow is hello kitty in comparison to a game like GTA (yes it's cited all the time), but in GTA you really see a darker realistic world of what goes on. WoW is just fine where it is maturity and target audience wise.

Having raised two sons, I can say WoW is pretty tame compared to a huge selections of others things they can be exposed to. By 14, the oldest son and his friends had learned how to burn porn from the internet on to DVD, to be watched on a Xbox 360. How many adults you know can do that ? I'm pretty sure I saw things equivalent to WoW by the time I was 12. Contrary to what some may think, Seeing sexual pictures of male\female nudity doesn't really scar and mentally damage a child for the rest of their lives.

Look outside your front door mate, children will be exposed to stuff 10 times as bad as any video game simply by growing up in the modern world.

While I agree, that violence is not appropriate for children I disagree with all the other points you brought up here.
Well to be honest I even disagree with the violence point in this particular case. It's comical violence with very, very little impact on the actual gameplay. Oh and by the way: The sexual content section made my laugh out really loud! Especially the picture of the kneeling nightelf... you can't seriously see that one as "sexual conent" because if you do, you have clearly no clue about human (or in this case nightelf sexuality)!

Since when do 12yo have money to buy games, let alone pay a monthly fee? And if parents aren't monitoring what their 12yo is doing, I feel sorry for the kid.

In addition, I highly doubt a 12yo would pay that much attention and actually notice these things.

What is wrong with you! He is clearly being made submissive by his Nelf Mistress, who has deemed him bad and that he needs to be punished. He's been a bad boy..very bad!

Hang on..I need to go get a tissue.

you are totally overreacting, kids from age 11-12 are the ones that talk about sex/blood etc the most, and they seem to enjoy it. I'm 13 and i really don't care about Alextrasza being half-naked or sh*t like that, but it's not funny either. It is appropriate for kids age 12 nowadays.
