    X-Box 360 Flashdrive question. HALO 4

So I have a terrible hard drive on my Xbox 360 because I simply don't play it. But i decided to pick up halo 4 and such to game with some friends. It requires 8 gigs alone for the multiplayer before you can even play it. It's a 2 disc game and you cannot get past this without the 8 gig storage room. My question is will a flash drive work if I pick up a 16 gig flash drive and plug it in / use their configure option. I read this microsoft post here and it looks like I can.

But im curious to will this work for multiplayer?

You only need to install the multiplayer disc in order to play online, which is 3GB. Trust me on this, I only have 7GBs available on my hard drive due to an...interesting issue regarding FFXI that would require me to reformat to get the space back that it's taking up. You do not have to install Disc 1.

    1) Put disc 2 into the drive.

    2) Boot the disc up as normal, like if it were a game.

    3) There will only be one option there, "Install Disc 2." Click that.

    4) When the install is finished, put Halo 4 Disc 1 back into the drive.

    5) Click Infinity and enjoy your Halo 4 multiplayer experience.

EDIT: If you don't have 3GB of space (you should...even the smallest Xbox 360 hard drives come with 4GB of free space I believe)...then the flash drive deal should work.

But I cannot play Co-OP and multiplayer this way correct? Just curious, like online Co-OP missions.

As far as I can tell, you can do any of the multiplayer features, including co-op campaign and Spartan Ops, without installing disc 1. The only required install is Disc 2. I haven't tried campaign yet, but I was playing Spartan Ops just fine without installing Disc 1.

I put disc 1 in, installed, did my profile my load out all that, then said install disc 2, i have 3.1g availble and it says halo is currently only taking up 64kb. Why is this? Im going to delete it and try your way right now just curious to why 1 took up 64 and it says 2 is 8

I heard some folks having a similar issue on the GFAQs forums. Deleting the install data then restarting from scratch by installing Disc 2 fixed it for them, IIRC.

Mmm I deleted all of disc 1, shut off the xbox, took disc 2 out put it back in and still says I don't have enough space. Im just going to run up to the source and grab a 15$ flash stick, just want to make sure that method should work right? It's not just for the RPG aspect flash drives work online multiplayer too?

Btw thanks for all the info, very very helpful.

You didn't try to install Disc 2 the normal way right? You booted it up like a game, and clicked the option within the game to install right? Just confirming that.

And no problem, glad to help and sorry it didn't work for you. I don't have a good answer for your flash drive question as I haven't tried it myself. But I've heard it works.

Yes, you can use a flash drive for it, it's how I used to play before getting a HDD for the Xbox. Loading times won't be as fast but it's completely doable.

Remember, any flash drive will work from any brand so don't buy expensive ones just because it says Xbox on it. Even if you buy one that's bigger than 16Gb it will still work, the only difference is that you'll only be able to use 16Gb regardless of how big it is.
