    Peanut butter on an old-fashioned rat trap worked for me the first night I used it.

    Seriously though, just call an exterminator. His bill is going to be lower than the repair bill if mammals destroy wooden parts of your house.

    And I would be more afraid of residual poison from an exterminator than mice. We likely still have some in our house (with a bakery in the cellar) but the only really unpleasant event was when one died under the wooden floor.
