Texas won't leave the union, but even if it did, Mexico isn't exactly the type of country to want to annex anything anymore. It's just not their style, even if their military was a match for what Texas could muster.

Theoretical question...
To my knowledge, every military base of the USA is Federal Property.
Now, if in theory Texas would break free.. All federal property within Texas could be simply destroyed by the US military. I doubt that they would just abandon the bases..
And when I think of it... Texas oil.... I don't know that now either, but I can see that there's a high possibility of oil lands that are property of the USA and not state, or privately owned.

None of the big cities in Texas would want to leave the union. Austin would certainly fight it. Maybe they could break off southwest but well over half the state wouldn't go for it. People don't realize that over 25 million people live in this state so a few backwoods rednecks and people who don't like the state but live somewhere else signing a petition means nothing.

I believe he is asking the very thing the Obama admin did, by giving the states that asked more control of how to distribute welfare and low income programs, under the permission to decrease the numbers of recipients. You know that thing, the Romney camp twisted around, claiming Obama gives out more welfare, by lowering the requirements.

You can't have it both ways. Believing that there are so few jobs people have given up looking for work and thinking people are too lazy to find work are incongruent. You can't be too lazy to find something that is supposedly not there for those who are looking.

There was a Rasmussen Poll in Texas in 2009, right after Perry made remarks about how Texas could think it's position over blabla....

The poll shown 75% of the questioned people did not approve of secession.

Mineral rights often aren't the same as the property owners.

As for the offshore oil in the Gulf, if Texas did become its own country, it would have territorial waters like any other country, and gain access to the whole Texas Gulf Coast when it comes to oil.

I will bring up my Southern family again, half of them are on some form of state assistance. All of them voted for Rmoney except my one Lesbian cousin she and her partner voted for Ron Paul.
