    US Funerals.

I am gonna avoid using any names or such that might break the rules.

Just left a unusual stream. This poor girl just lost her father and as i understood it couldnt afford a proper funeral.
This made me react in alot of different ways.
How does the American system work when it comes to these kinds of situations? I mean, if you can't pay for the funeral then what happens to the body?
I've never heard of anything like that in my own country so to me it sounds absurd that poor people have to beg for money for this kind of situation..
As far as i know my government in some way pays for the cheapest way if needed.
My other reaction was that it felt abit tasteless to ask for donations for such a task but since i don't know how your system work i can't tell if its needed or not.

How does it work over there to the west?

This wasn't ment to be any hate thread or any personal assault.

I have no idea, but here on Portugal, I think, if you can't afford a funeral, they cremate the body and send it to you on an urn, but I'm not sure.

But I doubt they would just leave the body somewhere if the person can't afford a funeral, no matter the country, right? :c

I would guess that the same thing would happen in the U.S. as it does in Portugal. Even though I've been in the U.S. my entire life, I've never actually seen anything like this happening. To my knowledge, cremation is pretty cheap to get if you don't want anything special and you just have a cheap jar to store the ashes in, so no matter someones income, they should be able to pay for it (or at least take out a loan to do so).

Doesnt the state pay for a simple burrial? As far as I know that it was happen in the US.
One cannot expect the state to fund alot of flower arrangements but just a cheap coffin or cremation.
But soon after Mr Xi secured a third term, Apple released a new version of the feature in China, limiting its scope. Now Chinese users of iPhones and other Apple devices are restricted to a 10-minute window when receiving files from people who are not listed as a contact. After 10 minutes, users can only receive files from contacts.
Apple did not explain why the update was first introduced in China, but over the years, the tech giant has been criticised for appeasing Beijing.

There are allot of organizations dedicated to giving burials to those who would otherwise just be cremated. You could probably find one just by googling "burial charity". Good Luck.

Funerals are a pointless luxury item. I have no desire to pay for other people's pointless luxury items.

Hmmm good question, I live here and I'm not entirely sure but I think you'd at the very least get cremated. If you don't even get health care provided here what makes you think we'd get any kind of burial lol?

I doubt the dead guy cares much if he's in the ground or not anyways

Social Security Death benefit - it's not a lot of money, but it should be barely enough to handle a simple cremation.

Well as i understood it the family of the woman wished to cremate the father and i can't see the significant cost of such a thing. Her goal was $1500 and i believe she raise just above $2000 before the donation stream went offline.
As i said in OP, it is abit tasteless and bold to ask people to donate IF the US government have a plan to do these things cheap for you. I mean surely people can't expect a big ceremony and such but you know.. cremate or dig it down.

I agree with that, but it's just a matter of respect that the family needs to feel when a loved one dies, that's why there's funerals, if that makes sense.

My mom, she told me that when she dies, she doesn't want a funeral, she doesn't care about it and she doesn't want people to look at her dead body. She wants to be cremated and want us to throw her ashes in the sea.

    I totally agree with her.

My father has told me several times "Do not let them put me in the ground, have me cremated and spread my ashes in the water"...but then again he will have enough to be cremated.

There is what's known as a "potters" funeral.

If no one can pay for the burial the state will pick up the tab giving the deceased a standard wood casket and a basic grave marker. Generally this is only used in the cases of homeless or criminals who die in prison and no one claims the body.

There is a benifit from social security that will pay approx. $6000 to the deceased family if they are unable to pay for a funeral. This will provide a basic "no frills" funeral.
I sat alone in the dark one night, tuning in by remote.
I found a preacher who spoke of the light, but there was Brimstone in his throat.
He'd show me the way, according to him, in return for my personal check.
I flipped my channel back to CNN and lit another cigarette.

What's luxurious about being embalmed and buried? What's more allot of people still find a last due to the dead incredibly important even if it's just a pine box and whatever flowers were cheapest.

I hope you plan to live forever.

    I know I do. :-p
Human progress isn't measured by industry. It's measured by the value you place on a life.

    Just, be kind.

Poor people get cremated by the city and the ashes are stored unless family signs for them, if after a set amount of time the ashes are not claimed them they are disposed of.

I should add if you want to claim the ashes you have to pay the city fees and taxes, this can be as low as a few hundred dollars or as much as a few thousand.

A nice computer is between $500 and $1,000. The average funeral is well over $7,000. Show some sympathy.

why do people think this? "if someone has a computer/phone/car/microwave oven they can afford to 'X'" because none of these things (aside from the car, which for many is an absolute necessity) is necessarily expensive. dont really have to be bill gates to own any or all of these things
