So, at least on the part of men, women aren't really judged as attractive/ugly based on unattainable Hollywood standards.

There's not THAT many men that I'd find to be average looking in my proximity atleast. There's some average looking and then there's the rare good looking men.

Keep in mind that the OKCupid article doesn't say 80% of men are worse than average looking. It says they're below "medium attractiveness." Which isn't really saying the same thing at all.

But this is actually good for men. If 80% of men are all banded in a very narrow "below average" group the playing field is more even, as the disparity between an ugly guy and an above average guy is much lower.

Women on the other hand struggle to keep up with the top end of the scale, so even "average" women are miles behind the many very attractive ones.

Yeah but what makes this statistic odd is that it's not self-analysis.

It's not 60% of people thinking they're smarter than average. It's not 80% of drivers thinking they're above average.

It's a group thinking 80% of ANOTHER group is below average.
