I agree, nothing beats the A-10 Thunderbolt II.

It's a good weapon because of it's easy maintenance and well.. It just works.

Here's the Finnish modernized version of AK:

(Seriously though, it's lovely, but not to everyone's liking. I for one can only drink it with tonic or Red Bull )
Gin and tonic is the drink of an Officer and a gentleman, although after 15 drinks you become much less of a gentleman.

Sorry, standard configurations are on their way out for service weapons. Bullpups have the same range and performance but are much smaller weapons.

Tough to say, mixing them would make sense in the long term, but in the years after the EU forces are just forming it would be better to keep them seperate but allow people to volunteer to other units if they can speak the language.

I would like individual units to keep their own uniforms, hats and badges, such things give you a lot of pride and help distinguish you from the other units. I would hate to be like the US army wear everybody wears the same thing and you all look indentical, I think the British Regimental system is perfect and needs to stay.

The force would mostly stick to ARMY style ranks/leadership. with specialist wings for the stuff the marines/navy do.

weapon of choice, well, CZ 805 BREN - beautiful piston operated AR, currently in service with the Czech army.
Sidearm, I think a glock is a fairly unanimous choice in this thread, however, Im going to say a nice modern .45. purely for stopping power.

as for vehicles, so long as they have blackhawks in the sky, and challengers on the ground. its all good!

as for troop mixing, I would keep it mostly divised by lingual standards. so group A = british/irish/welsh/scots group b = swe etc the only times It would be mixed up would be for special teams, be they divers, or simply first responders. action transcends language.

Its a very basic weapon that is pretty much out of date. I think our new EU forces can do a little better than cloning old soviet technology.

AK happens to be one of the most reliable and durable weapons in the world. We use RK-95 here in Finland, it's based on the ak and it's pretty good weapon.

    True that.

Well I had RK-62 (the older model) during my service.

Trade-off - all meindl's are Gore-tex but from experience - if you get your feet wet once, you'll get them wet all the time. My next purchase is going to be a pair of these:

The leather is brilliant quality if you look after it, and the Memory foam is just fantastic.

Not used one of those before, they look like a well designed rifle. I will have to see if we have a few at work I can play with.

Reliable, durable; but performance wise any of the first world service weapons will outdo it.

The only way to run it with a straight chain of command leading to one HQ and one supreme commander.
I would divide europe into 4 military entities or (four big blocks if you will) France/spain/portugal would form the first one, scandinavia + england the second, germany + austria + poland and the baltic nations would form the third. The last block would be italy greece hungary romania bulgaria slovakia and the czech republic.
French and English would be the languages for the first block, English alone for the second, German and English spoken required in the third block, Italian and English languages will be used in the last block.
Its tempting to just scrap all other languages and just make English universal, but i fear that pride would make it impossible.

The first block would primarily be focused at training in Africa, the second focused at nothern Russia and the north pole, the third focused at eastern Russia, and the last focused towards turkey and the rest of Asia minor.

Equipment would be uniformed within each major block; so each block would get equipment best suited for combat in their respective region.

Would work provided you allow each military to wear their custom headdress and minor unique identity through badges, mini-customs etc..
