Probably to make their opinions/feedback seem more important, or maybe they're embarrassed because somebody in a dungeon called them a Wrath/Cata/whatever baby. Not saying all of them are liars, I started in TBC myself, though I never hit the level cap till Wrath, so there's little evidence to say when I started.

I find it hard to believe that anyone would want to play Vanilla / TBC when they never even experienced it in the first place. The MMO-C crowd is a more hardcore gaming crowd than your average, so I would assume most people on here have been playing WoW for quite some time.

However, if you go and armory me, you might be convinced I never played in TBC considering that I raided but not to any highly successful level, and I never really went back and killed a lot of the bosses that I did once upon a time. Not only that but I've main switched three times now (used to play my Mage, then my Shammy, now Monk) and server transferred at least 4 times.

Because playing the same game for 9 years is cool, yo.

No but seriously, I've been playing WoW since it was pencil-drawn concept art.

TBC 11 million actually, and if I remember correctly, vanilla had 8 million.

Well, that's all I came here to say. Not important, but hey... details.

Why lie? Whats the point it does not make you a better player if you started playing back then "its all about the player you are now" not then, and it's not going to get you laid or anything. Just why lie!

    Anyone have any input?
oke so i got banned and rebought WoW before battle.net stuff. so now i'm lieing?

Why should people lie about playgin vanilla ? I played from vanilla until now (have old honor title to prove it on an alt, wooot ?) and I'm not "proud" of that. I just played a game I like for 8 years. And what ? Vanilla was nice, so was BC, WotLK, cata and now MoP (yeah, I liked all extensions. Me mad bro ?) but for sure I wouldn't go back. Sure doing some (really) old raid/dungeon as it was back then could be nice, but in overall the game is MUCH better now (and I freaking love my monk alt, thx MoP for that ).

only reason I would go back to vanilla i to spec sealfate/prep and destroy kids for couple hours, but nothing else

also, assuming no account/character trading, if someone has vanila titles doesnt that guarantee he played vanilla, since we are looking for a determinant or so? (you can distinguish vanilla and RBG titles)

I've raided up to Naxx and yet I don't have the achievements for it. Because surprise surprise, achievements didn't exist back then.

So how can you see if someone started playing in Classic, TBC, Wrath or Cataclysm? Please enlighten me.

Some achievements could be retroactively given to players because the system could see you having items you couldn't get anyway else. Like the items from the Head of Onyxia quest for example. You could only get those if you raided the place, so they gave you the achievement for it. That's what you mean, right?

But it didn't work flawlessly. For example, I had completed every raid in vanilla up to Naxx. Both 20 and 40 men. I've even finished one wing of Naxx.
But the only achievements I got were from MC, BWL and Onyxia because I happened to have full set of T1 and T2. I didn't get the 20 men achievements, and I didn't get AQ40. I'm not sure if old Naxx had achievements for multiple wings, but I think not. If it did however, I also didn't get that achievement.

What I'm trying to say is, achievements aren't a flawless proof.

Huh, you can't know if they're not being honest, and why should you care if their claims are true or not.

Many people have changed accounts too. The account I started wow with is long lost, for example.

People lying about playing in classic and TBC adds about as much weight to their argument as people accusing them of not playing in classic or TBC.

I played Vanilla 1 week after start. I raided every stuff there was and as early as it came out. I remember days of 5 mins buffing paladins as their only job. NPC MCing shadow priests and out of combat ressing in raid instances.

The game was different then. 40 man raiding was a pain in the butt cause alot of times ppl had connection issues and 1 bad dc could wipe the entire raid. So very often the biggest enemy was the internet connection - not the actually bosses.

TBC is in the memory such a great expansion because it took the game to the next level. It added flying, it created next level of NPC encounters and it added Arena combat with better PVP settings. Many of the raid encounters had advanced complexity and difficulty but were still not too much. Early TBC raiding was such a fantastic time both 10 and 25 man cause encounters were so well done. In my opinion better than what they are now cause its so much over the top in many ways.

Thats why Vanilla and TBC was such a great time for me. But it also had issues - alot of them. But in terms of content I still consider it the very best BLizzard has done. Other than Sunwell ... that became just a AOE fest like pretty much every encounter we see today...

why do people care why other people lie?

  16. #336
Why do you think? Because of all this constant nagging about "OMG Vanilla was so much better" "in vanilla it was much harder" "i played in vanilla when it was cool" etc etc etc. Every fucking day, jeez. Of course people who weren't playing then will start lying and saying that they were.

For the record, i started in 2005 and i think it has gotten better with each expansion.

I played since November 2004. Killed Rag like 30+ times during vanilla.

I quit before achievements came out and came back after them. I still haven't gone back and got my rag achieve.

But my old lvl 60 Warlord title is on my FoS :P

Not to mention I have Conqueror title on my old character...which has no WSG/AB/AV achievements...yes it has exalted with all 3 BGs but I haven't even played BGs on that character since coming back.

People lionize the first two iterations of the game for a variety of reasons, but it all boils down to nostalgia. It's like when a 20 year old tells you they miss the 90s. Of course you do! You were a kid! Being a kid is great!

I've learned that most people are generally followers, they follow who or what they think is the coolest or trendiest. Just my opinion...
