Nerf Demonology, Fix Affliction; This Is Not A Difficult Concept (PvP)

Affliction is in a TERRIBLE state right now. I know that I originally began playing a Warlock due to how Affliction played in TBC PvP. I was happy to see Affliction work fairly well for much of Cataclysm as well. Although we may defend the state of Demonology because we are Warlocks and Demonology is our last viable arena spec, we have to face the facts: it doesn't require any casting whatsoever and it is not a fun playstyle (I don't like spamming Fel Flame all game waiting for my 2min Dark Soul to come off of CD to do some burst with CWx2.)

Affliction required much more skill, was much more fun to play, and had a better overall feel.

Right now, Affliction multi-DoTing does little to no damage in PvP and subsequently produces no pressure whatsoever. Most of this can be attributed to the fact that Malefic Grasp now does ~45% of your single-target damage as Affliction. This is the WORST thing that could have ever happened to Affliction in PvP short of being unable to cast DoTs simply because we have to use a channel to get ANY damage out in PvP, and idiotically enough, that channel is in the same school as almost every other Affliction spell: Shadow.

I suggest that they do the following to fix Affliction PvP without adversely affecting Affliction PvE (which I realize is fine momentarily):

    - Reduce Malefic Grasp damage significantly, make it do slightly more damage than Drain Life so that we can have the option to viably use Drain Life as a filler in PvP rather than Malefic Grasp since passive regen is important for Warlocks due to things like Blood Fear and Life Tap.
    - Remove the Soul Shard cost on Haunt. Put it back on an 8 second cooldown. Add the heal back in.
    - Double the Glyph of Siphon Life's healing from 20% to 40% and bake the glyph into the baseline spell of Corruption. We need some passive regen of our HP back simply because we'd "fizzle" our selves while damaging without it. No one EVER complained about this in Cataclysm, why was our passive regen crippled?
    - In exchange for nerfing Malefic Grasp's damage significantly, increase the damage of DoTs such as UA, Agony and Corruption significantly. Bring back multi-DoTing. Yes, this may increase the damage of Affliction on some fights in PvE, but the Malefic Grasp nerf should make it so that damage overall in PvE is reduced (where you're generally training a single target.)

    - This one may sound like a stretch, but ADD SHADOWFLAME BACK IN. Why was this EVER removed? Fun to use, 70% slow, and just imperative for Affliction control overall.

Replace MG with Shadowbolt and you get Cata affliction back.
I Hated Cata affliction, so from PvE perspective - I completely disagree with everything on this list.

Right, but this is a PvP oriented post. I really don't care about the PvE perspective personally since I don't understand why the iconic Warlock PvP spec since the creation of Warlocks must be crippled just so that you can enjoy pushing a few buttons during a monotonous boss encounter. You have Demonology and Destruction to play with, both of which are perfectly viable right now. Warlock PvP is in the process of being gutted, especially with the incoming Demonology and Destruction nerfs.

Cataclysm Affliction was perfect for PvP and nothing needed to be changed, but they went ahead and destroyed it for fun anyway. Bring it back with a slightly different MoP taste.

I enjoy Demonology, have done since TBC. For me the fact that I have had to wait all these years for demonology to be viable in arena is a bad thing. I find the playstyle interesting and fun. So fuck off.

Let's keep the language pleasent please, no need for crudeness. ~xskarma

Destruction isn't viable in arenas. Demonology is viable for now, but it is being destroyed in 5.1

Since we're asking to bring back days of old, I request they bring back our SL/SL days, kthx.

I read this as break the other spec so I can get my spec buffed... is that accurate OP?

So basically... you don't care about the PvE warlocks, but they have to care and be penalized because of PvP warlocks? So as long as your favourite PvP spec works in PvP, you don't care about those who might enjoy it in PvE, and tell them to use another spec? The same could be said to you. Go demonology. Getting nerfed? Tough luck for now, it seems.

Because Affli hasn't dominated lock pvp for so long right?
No thanks. Demono pvp is way nicer. It's time for other specs to shine. Demo (SL/SL) got BC, Destro got a bit of Wotlk, Cata was 100% affli now back to Demo. Seems logical. Even if it does not play like SL/SL anymore. Burst was much lower back then. and classes didn't have 13532 CC and CC breakers. It was much better ^^

Afflic needs to stay the same so that we have a great spec for pve, I played afflic in pvp for so long... it's refreshing to try new things. If it makes you happy it'll be a bit more viable with kiljeadans cunning in 5.1, demo and destro are fun pvp specs.. demo although being nerfed was part of the 1# world comp. Plz don't ruin afflic pve for the sake of pvp we're finally in a good place.

Am I the only one bemused by warlocks OCD behaviour? On every other class forum people will cry if one of their specs aren't pvp viable, Yet I never saw any lock caring that demo always been ignored by the developers for competitive pvp and when it for the first time in like ever isn't, warlocks cry that they want it nerfed.

    It's funny.

I don't think OCD means what you think it means.

not sure if trolling or not but yeah lets just obliterate the PVE aspect of the class that seems like a GREAT idea

Don't accuse others of trolling, please. ~xskarma

Maybe you just need to adjust your playstyle as pvp lock.. Played some pvp and pve as lock, hated to confront locks in bg's, on any class(before arena also), but the moments when i just wanted to feel immortal, i played pvp as lock..
That said, havent even logged my 2 lock alts yet, Pandarian dailies sucks for alts ;-)

sure it is, remember these are the same people who compared silencing an enhancement shaman to prevent cds is the same as disarming a mage.

    It would be worthless now.
What exactly would you do with it ?

Point of it was long multidot potential with mana drain in tank spec. Todays arena is about burst and cds.

so is aff even hopeless if your not trying to be majorly competitive

my issue is that i want to get to the point where affliction is 2nd nature and don't want to be a nuker in PVP.

I want to just keep trying to get better and better at it in both PVE and pvp.
