    Disc/Shadow Spec Addons?! (specific needs)

So I recently started playing WoW, actually. My friend wanted me to hop on that priest super badly because I don't suck at videogames like every healer they've recruited, so long story short, I chose to spec in disc/shadow.

I'm looking for a number of things and would appreciate a couple of suggestions for each category if it exists, I am doing this in tandem with Googling a freakin' load of mods. I figure it's just easier to ask people who aren't new for some of the top possibilities. Generally speaking, I would like to be able to use an interface mod that will let me assign/save/load profiles so that I can make different UIs for my disc and shadow specs respectively.

    So my specific needs are:

    • Ability to highly customize bars & assign hotkeys (I have a 12 button mouse). I'm currently using Bartender for that, but if there are other options I would like to look at them.
    • Streamlined map & UI look (preferably something clean & simple that allows for a lot of customization).
    • Custom cooldown tracking (I don't need every cooldown to be tracked, I would like to just customize for the super important ones)
    • Party bar area that can do a few things:

    1. Color by class
    2. Custom size of bars
    3. Possibly sort by class... so say I have 2 warriors, I want the warriors to be grouped together in my party bar (or something that allows me to move players to change the order would be ideal)
    4. Party buff/debuff tracking (possibly something that changes colors of bars as people are debuffed/cursed/etc)

    • Thinking I'm just going to use RSA to announce my cooldown casting, but I'm open to any other suggestions as well
    • DoT/HoT live tracking

Already have Recount to track the "big" numbers, but I want something that monitors when my dots/hots are about to expire, preferably.

Please use the full names of addons for suggestions as well, because I am not necessarily familiar with the abbreviations for many of them. Thanks in advance!

1 - Bartender is great. You could also download Masque (http://www.curse.com/addons/wow/masque) to skin your Bartender (and other addons) icons.
2 - Chinchilla minimap (http://www.curse.com/addons/wow/chinchilla) is what you need. As simple and clean as you like.
3 - There are lots of addons to do this. I love TellMeWhen (http://www.curse.com/addons/wow/tellmewhen) but there are others like Weak Auras, NeedToKnow, Power Auras...
4 - If you're only interested in party (and self, target, focus, frames, etc) I suggest you to use Shadowed Unit Frames (http://www.curse.com/addons/wow/shadowed-unit-frames). If you're interested in customise the raid frame, then you can use Vuhdo (http://www.curse.com/addons/wow/vuhdo) which is the best imho, or Grid or Healbot. I use them both, SUF and Vuhdo.
5 - RSA is nice and enough.
6 - You can use the same addon you choose from answer 3. They can track CDs, internal CDs, procs, buffs, debuffs, dots, hots... whatever you want.

To track your dots duration in multiple targets you can use Tidy Plates (http://www.curse.com/addons/wow/tidy-plates), which draws the dot duration in the mob health bar (this is what I use) or Fortexorcist (http://www.curse.com/addons/wow/fortexorcist) which draws a bar for every single dot you've cast. I don't like this way but many people seem to love it
Regarding the HoTs duration, I suggest you to configure the raid frame you've chosen (Vuhdo, Grid, Healbot or even the Blizzard raid grid) to track their duration. You can configure them to show icons with a timer or bars inside the healed player cell.

Here you can see the addons I've spoken about: http://youtu.be/SlB-8d42GdE

I apologise for my poor English, but I hope you get what you needed :P

Eldarc covered everything! The only thing not mentioned is if you want a priority-announce mod (ala clcRet/facemelter/ovale). The current 'best' one for spriests right now seems to be Shadow Priest DOT Timer from curse.com.

    I'd recommend Gnosis over Fortexorcist.
Both can be configured for basically the same thing, castbars, dot timers and icd monitoring. However, fortexorcist does not properly compensate for dot refreshes when using spells like Mind Flay or Mind Sear that show ticks when channeling.

Don't show Mind Flay or Mind Sear on your FX, you can just see that on your Gnosis castbar.

Gnosis is your Priest castbar. It's the best around, I mean an Spriest makes it

ForteXorcist is your DoT and Buff tracker. Here's something to get you started on those two if you wish.

ElvUI is a full UI mod that I would recommend. Skins all windows, really slick and lightweight. TukUI is also available but requires .lua editing for customization whereas ElvUI has a nice GUI.

Sweet, thanks a bunch guys. I'll check it all out and decide for myself.

for hot tracking i use hotcandy...tryin to find one for DOT's though...i want one similar to hotcandy for my dots...

  8. #8
Ive been using ElvUI for my Priest - It tracks all my DoTs, my Trinket CDs, as well as keeps a nice managable set of raid frames.

I use Weak Auras for DOT and CD traking for my shadow priest.

Here is the settings i use(go to NEW > Import copy&paste the entire line): CDs http://justpaste.it/1k7p and DOTs http://justpaste.it/1k7q

There's a lot of choices and a lot boils down to preference.

I use ElvUI + addons. Have it configured for Naga (but you could use a stand alone addon like Bartender for such, too).

Halopro for both specs. Not required if you don't use Halo, or use something else which uses librange to tell you range but useful graphic with color feedback.
PoMtracker, Ingela's Rapture Tracker, Vuhdo for disc. Vuhdo requires good tweaking to set up tracking of absorb power left (SS, PW:S, DA). Once set up, its ace. You'd also have to set up more (stuff like sort as tank, healer, DPS in each group which seems to be closest to what you want)
Default DoT trackers in ElvUI are very good (I evaluated basically every DoT tracker in existence). The only thing I miss is something which lights up when DoT should be refreshed (say SW:P < 3 sec) but it is something I can live without because I'm proactively planning my refreshes anyway. I also miss friendly debuffs on target, but that's generally only good for raid leaders. Debuffs and procs on me are near each other area in ElvUI, making debuff tracking very easy (no need for silly stuff like powerauras). To track (I)CDs I use ForteXorcist. That's the only part of FX I use.
I also use RSA but that's actually not used in real raids since we communicate over vt. Its more like for alts in PuGs, LFR, etc where I don't use vchat.
Finally macros can be important, but they depend on your preference, too and you're not asking about that so won't bring it up more than just this.
All of these addons and changes have learning curve three way: one to set up, one to get used to it, and one to fine tune to your needs.

Thanks for the additional responses. So far, I'm leaning toward-

    ElvUI
    Fortexorcist
    BT4
    RSA

I'll just play around with everything probably and find what I like. Thanks again, everyone.

Bartender is not compatible with ElvUI iirc
There is an addon "ElvUI extra action bar" or something like that's great to have, but Elv's are quite nice imo.

Actually I disable ElvUI's action bars and use Bartender instead because I like Bartender better (mostly the fadout feature but also I am used to the super simple way of setting up keybinds), so that is an option.
