And then they invented staying up top the entire fight and having that player also log. Pretty new idea I think it's only a few years old.

He has to make money somehow. His job is to stream. I would also argue that his guild being 13/16H being pretty high end. Sure, he isn't competing for world firsts but considering he started playing again just before MoP release with a very limited roster, I would say it is pretty impressive.

for the topic itself, I have seen many high end guilds raid with multiple mages. Arcane seems to be viable now as well as fire and frost. Mages seem to be one of the few classes that are in a good spot. Just because 1 guild benches them, doesn't make them obsolete.

    Amazing sig compliments of Mountandpetlover!

I get annoyed when peopel post comments about how mages were fine in sunwell and that everythign was honky dory! Sure you still took your top mages to Sunwell and they did decent damage however the main reason to have 1 mage in the raid was for AI. It's not that mages were bad or did horrid dps/dmg during sunwell it's that due to many of the mechanics and tight dps requirements the symbiosys that S.priests and locks had and the absurd amount of dmg they could pull when teamed up meant that if you had the ability to take equaliy skilled mages or locks with s.priest you would be at an advantage going the S.priest lock rout. Thus in top end guilds with a large roster mages got "sunwelled" ...congrats to you on being in a guild it did not happen in but for many it did an for a verry valid reason!

Back on topic... the issue with the nerf is that they nerfed the dmg ocmponent of combust ALONG with a crit multiplyer / scaler. This is a double slap in the face on an RNG spec such as fire and seems to have been slightly too much all at once. I do agree some tuning was needed but bad RNG totaly crumbles them now

We used 3 mages on our Sha of Fear HC kill.

If you killed Sha of Fear HC, you're not a "progressing guild" anymore! See, it only further proves OP point.

Somehow. Because it's still One guild that is somehow Multiple.

Are you in the world's top 100 and climbing? If not, don't worry too much about it.

My friend is in a guild that is 10/16 HC so far, their mage is constantly one of the higher dps.

    And they ARE progressing :P

Increasing the amount of class that is currently FOTM and reducing the one that is not is not something thats new, and wasnt even new in sunwell, so i still can't see all the crying behind it. Warlocks were marginally better from mages, but any good mage didn't get benched because of that, usually the vocal and loud ones are the average-to-bad people that find excuses in everyhing else (usually blizzard) rather than themselves.

The only reason people run with 4-5 mages in a raid is if mages are OP. Same with running more than 3 of any given spec.

Some of those mages getting benched is just an indicator that the class is no longer OP.

Even after this nerf, with decent RNG Fire Mages are still one of, if not the best, DPS specs in the game. Even with average RNG they're competitive on single-target, and still extremely good at cleaving.
