The really hilarious thing is that people in this thread think that kids need to be walked to school, or even less - to a bus stop.

    Oh the humanity.

I walked to an inner-city school 15 minutes there and back through a ghetto every day since I was in grade 2. (7 years of age). True, it wasn't exactly problem free (I was mugged a few times by bullies (not adult criminals)), but at that age you don't really have anything valuable anyway, and I enjoyed the fact that I didn't have to deal with my parents during my commute.

"If I am walking my kid to the bus stop in December and January, I would really rather not be doing that,"

Point taken. This guy puts a remarkable amount of effort into avoiding doing things with his son. Unless he's also built his son a transformers-esque mech suit, I doubt their relationship is very good.

This isn't even bad, I remember hating having to walk with my father to school.

Nobody cares what the kid thinks? He's probably going to be the coolest kid on the school, who at that age didn't want a robot pal?

My parents never escorted me anywhere. I was walking to school/riding my bike/going to the bus stop on my own from kindergarten. It's a bit silly to call someone a bad parent because they don't walk their kid to the bus stop.

Agreed. Just because your parent doesn't walk you to school doesn't mean he/she is a shitty parent.

Though I kinda disliked having my mom walking me to school when I was a kid, very shy I was. :3

I walked home on my own during grade school. I don't see the problem here....

It will keep bullies away, because you can record their activities.
