    Viable 10m Group

Hey guys, I was just wondering if you think it would be possible to be running with 3 melee, 2 ranged, 3 healers (1 dps OS) and 2 tanks. Usually I know people want 3 ranged and 2 melee. Take note we are not a heroic progression guild, just running normals and progressing through that. Do you think it would be okay?

raidcomp.mmo-champion.com plug the classes you have in and make sure you have essential buffs covered beyond that its just about adjust your strategy for each boss based on comp.

Ya the essential buffs are covered, hell even more debuffs are covered with the melee heavy raid just wondering how much more difficult some fights (Elegon maybe) become with melee heavy groups?

    You will be fine

We're progressing through heroic modes and running with a melee heavy raid group - 3 melee (4 on 2 heal fights!!!) and 2 ranged. A melee stacked group will have no problems at all for the normal modes.

Mists is very melee friendly compared to previous tiers. In fact you're probably better off with 3 melee on most fights.

Is the healer's off-spec a ranged? Might be useful on Elegon and Garajal, but not essential. Most fights are better 2 healed anyways, so a ranged off-spec would be handy.

Ya our healer with OS is a Tree/boomkin who has surprisingly good numbers for a boomkin...

quite often i am the only ranged in our raid, and we kill bosses. Not a lot tho but yeah it seems viable.

It should be fine to have 3 melee, unless you're progressing on Sha of fear HM or some others specific heroic bosses.

It may be a little harder on some bosses, but it's doable

Some fights it will be good, other fights it will be bad. Garalon for example favors melee cleavers. Elegon favors ranged. In general its about even this teir though so you should be fine. If your players are good you'll make progress regardless of the comp but you may have some trouble with certain fights. Also be aware that there are a few single tank fights.

Muldoting class are very good on Elegon, not ranged class.

Because melee lose a lot of time running off the platform to reset stacks. Range can stand on the edge of the platform and just jump to reset and never move. Additionally, range can kill their spark right by the platform edge, reset and hit the boss without needing to run back. Basically melee loses a lot of DPS time due to the sheer amount of running they have to do. Sure, melee are still good for sparks and protector because of cleave but they're running off the platform a bunch as well.

Melee are TERRIBLE on Heroic Empress. WTB more instant fixate deaths in Phase 2.

Because having to run away from the boss for stack resets makes you lose dps?

Only in phase 2. In phase 1 most classes can handle this without any loss (Charge/Heroic leap, shadow step, etc. to come back to the boss).
Even in phase 2, if you play well you can kill your orb near the border of the vortex. Otherwise, we kill our orb faster than any multidoting class anyway so it's not a huge loss.

If you check the logs, melee are behind multidoting spec (Affliction, SP, Balance) but above everything else (including ranged class like Hunter and Shaman, or any other spec warlock/mage spec.)
Not to mention that in HM, melee can pretty much stay on the boss during all the phase 1.
