Looking to upgrade my laptop - Need some ideas.

I've had my laptop for a little over 2 years, and while it still runs pretty well it just isn't giving me quite the performance that I want from it. I've toyed with the idea of putting in an SSD, but I don't think that will make much of a difference in the long run considering the processor is the weak point. I've already done a factory reset, any tips on if I can actually upgrade it without having to buy a new $1,000 or so laptop? Or, if I really have to buckle down and buy a new one, what are some suggestions for laptops in the $1,000-$1,200 range?

Here's a link to my current laptop with all the specs: http://www.asus.com/Notebooks/Gaming...specifications

The only user-changeable parts in laptops are the HDD and the RAM (and sometimes not even the RAM because it is soldered to the motherboard). And neither will significantly improve your laptop's gaming performance.

That's what I thought - but a few friends of mine have been feeding me crap about changing out the processor and they don't seem to want to believe that I can't change it out. There is a spot for a SSD, but like I said, if the processor is what's slow than I really don't think putting that in will give me a drastic change in performance worth spending the $150 or so on the SSD.

An SSD would only reduce your loading times.

Had a feeling that would be the case, but thanks. Looks like I need to get ready to drop some dough then. Woe is me.

cpu and gpu are soldered on the motherboard so upgrading those parts isn't an option (and there is where you need the upgrade the most)

Alrighty, I'll have a nice 'I told you so' waiting for my friend later today :P

Any suggestions on something right around the 1k range? I want something that won't be like this one where it's slowed down in a matter of two years.

depends on what you want to play with it and on what settings. (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834152371 average suggestion for now)

That looks great - One of my biggest issues was that the storage on this one is so small that I could only keep x amount of games on here.

Generally I play WoW, Rift, Skyrim, Sims 3, and a handful of other rpgs on PC while everything else is on my PS3. I would like to run everything on high at the least, but I can live with good settings.

Some laptops do give you access to the processor. most do not.
