I need to fix my chair *any suggestion*

Okay about 2 week ago i bought a old chair from salvation army and i thought this old chair will support me so i try it and is did so i bought it, Until i noticing the strap were breaking one by one until the bottom fell out and is let me with no cushion so little by little the fabric was ripping every times i sat, So i can up with a i deal and built a whole new cross member for the support and that i use

    1x5 10" piece of lumber
    wood nail

And that i start retrofitting the piece and is work BUT everytime i sit down i fell the padding and spring so after a while is get annoying and that i was coming up with some ideal to add *shipping foam and pack it in* inside where the spring are and seal it but do anyone have an better ideal

Obviously upholstery foam would be better than shipping foam if you can get ahold of some. Most shipping foam isn't dense enough and isn't made to support the weight of a human body.

Pics might help us get a grasp of the situation better.

    Update

I scrap my orginal plan because of the age of chair i change the layout of the wood from vertical to horizontal so the 1x4 can work and after put some 1x3 before the 1x4 for add support is work out and that i add the original spring and box it in and is seem to work but that now i want to do something else

add a headrest and that is one many ideal i have so i can make this a inexpensive homemade/diy gaming chair

if it ain't solid wood its going to fail eventually. But good luck with fancy straps and paraphenalia.

Buy a throw pillow then get some duct tape and tape it to the chair.

i did add a jumbo pillow and also 6 piece of cardboard before i add everything else and so far is comfortable but is raise up a little but is no big deal and is was a good plan but i yet finished with it because i have ideal rambling in my head and is just trial and error that all !

because i bought $100 computer chair in the past that were crap because i weight about over 300lbs and that if i want a heady duty chair i would drop about $200 to $400

and this chair was $10 with lumber all together was about $15 so i drop $25 in a strong and well sturdy chair that i design even thought the strap were old and brittle i gutted it and rebuilt it so that is will support me and there is more plan for it

I don't know if it's an awesome chair or a super ghetto chair XD

If you can, try to varnish the arm, it'll make them smoother n stuffs

I didn't read any of the posts, but the solution is duct tape.

that thing isnt worth the cost of the 2x4's you bought to fix it. as a professional furniture maker my recommendation is to send that wreck to the fireplace and get another chair. that thing is seriously beyond redemption. im sorry for your loss

That chair is mournfully sad...like...a kid with progeria trying to catch a football sad.

I dunno, have I made duct tape posts before? I can't recall. It's usually pretty invaluable for projects like that though.

12 cinder blocks+ a pillow or blanket on top would have been cheaper, less effort, safer, and more stable then that mess.

three tiers, in a 2x2 pattern, and cement glue them together.
