    A 21:9 LG monitor rises...

    http://www.anandtech.com/show/6482/l...ing-its-target

Now this is new to me... and jeez. Talk about WIDE. I suppose Ultrawide is a good way to title it. lol

When migrating away from 4:3 screens for home video, the 16:9 aspect ratio was chosen as a compromise between all the common formats at the time. For many film fans, this meant finally being able to watch movies in their original aspect ratio without putting up with black bars. However many films are shot using aspect ratios even wider than 1.78:1, such as 2.20 for 70mm film or 2.39 for modern cinemascope films. . While the letterboxing of these titles was improved over 4:3 sets on new 16:9 sets, the black bars remained. Now we are starting to see panels that also address this audience, including the LG 29EA93 21:9 LCD monitor.

    Looks kind of ridiculous...

$1,000. Not too surprised, especially since it is IPS.

This Dell one, which is apparently better, can be had for $700:

I'm really intrigued who the OEM of the Dell 29" is, since Dell has often used LG panels, as I recall.

Thats most likely LG :P But if i had to chose, id pick Dell. Screen looks better, more practical, dell guarentee, plus the price is way lower.

Somehow, the dell just looks better build, i dunno :P

Monitors have gone steadily worse over the years. 1920x1200 with zero dead pixels guarantee used to be the standard big computer screen five years ago but it was replaced by smaller 1920x1080 because of TV, and now 2560x1440/1600 is going away too replaced by 1/3 smaller 21:9 screens?

1/3 cheaper for LG to make those panels, but they can sell it at the same price as proper 2560x1600... Disgusting.
Never going to log into this garbage forum again as long as calling obvious troll obvious troll is the easiest way to get banned.

Dell is known for building them well and giving them nice sturdy stands.

Dell is selling them for 700 dollar, the 2713HM is selling for 800. I would pick the 2713HM over the 2913WM in a heartbeat, tho.

Altho i doubt 1080p will be replaced anytime soon. If it would be, it will most likely be 4k because of TV.
But it is the same as on the TV market. Philips made some 21:9 tvs, but i dont think the sold more of those than regular tvs. If that picked up, we would have seen way more.

Guess im trying to say is, i wouldnt worry to much these screens becoming mainstream over 1440p. What actually should happen is 1440p on 24 inch, just to bad the monitor market is just standing still compared to other display markets

2560 will probably be the new standard for computers as 4k gets cheaper

it wasnt too long ago that 1650 was standard and 1920 was enthusiast class

in the mean time, i have the 990x running as a hyper-v server until i can get a proper E3 xeon build going

Monitor manufacturing lines are being driven by the needs of home theatre/cinema and game consoles. As long as you understand that, none of this should be a mystery.

It's not your average 1080p... not only is it 2560x1080, versus 1920x1080... it is also IPS, not TN, so much higher quality, better viewing angles, and can produce MANY more colors with more clarity more accurately than TN.

The difference is not that big as you describe lol. Expect the viewing angles. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=XeagoeNUJGw
