    [Movies] Pacific Rim

Woah shit, finally a trailer for this movie. It may look cheesy but holy crap those things are huge. I'll pay to see it for sure. (Fun week to be an action movie fan, so many trailers coming out this week >.<)

So basically it's Evangelion, but with Idris Elba and the Eva's have GLaDOS voices...

Yeah okay I'm in tbh it's Del Toro, I'll see anything that man makes.
Reading A Song of Ice and Fire is like playing with an adorable puppy, then someone comes up out of nowhere, shoots the puppy and punches you in the face.

Only reason I will see it is because of Del Toro, if it weren't for that I wouldn't see it because of it looks like a japanese monsters meets transformers movie really.

I am honestly perfectly okay with a sci popcorn film, but only if the person creating it has a decent repuation...which del toro does.

Basically i wont watch shit like Battleship, but I might watch this.

Also i have a slight obsession with mecha shows.

It looks surprisingly better then I thought it would.

I think Del Toro is a fine director and would have loved to see him in a more active role on the Hobbit films. It seemed he had his heart set on doing "At the Mountain of Madness", such a shame it didn't go through, especial with how many years he thought he was going to direct "The Hobbit"

    Extra wikipedia info;

Director Guillermo del Toro and screenwriter Matthew Robbins wrote a screenplay based on Lovecraft's story, but in 2006 had trouble getting Warner Bros. to finance the project. Del Toro wrote, "The studio is very nervous about the cost and it not having a love story or a happy ending, but it's impossible to do either in the Lovecraft universe."[25] In July 2010 it was announced that the film would be made in 3D and that James Cameron would become producer,[26] and Tom Cruise was attached to star.[27] This "was a startling prospect considering Lovecraft's tale had long been considered unfilmable."[27] Del Toro confirmed that the film would begin production as early as May 2011 and start filming in June.[28] However, in March 2011, it was announced that "Universal refused to greenlight the project due to del Toro's insistence that it be released with an R rating rather than a PG-13."[27] According to Salon.com, "Universal wants to hold onto the project in the event that it changes its mind and decides to make it later, either as an R or PG-13 movie. But del Toro is already trying to set up Mountains at another studio (possibly 20th Century Fox).[27] However, on April 30, 2012, del Toro posted that, due to the resemblance in premise with director Ridley Scott's film, Prometheus, the project would probably face a "long pause -if not demise".[29] The film's current status is unknown.[30]

I don't get the abandonement of At The Mountains of Madness because of Prometheus. Prometheus is not the first film to bring to light the whole "Chariots of The Gods" mess, and Lovecraft's work approaches it from a very different angle than Prometheus did. Very, very, VERY different.

I love Del Toro, I love Lovecraft, and I loved Prometheus. Why can't they all play nicely?! BAH!

But on topic... Definitely going to see Pacific Rim. If I can talk my wife into it we might even do midnight premiere. I love mecha and kaiju stuff, and Del Toro is a god to me.

Its robot Jox meets godzilla ....oddly both movies i enjoyed watching because they may look cheesey or get panned by the critics but dear god give me some popcorn and some action and i,m content.

I also seen battleship oddly it got panned as badly as john carter for a surprisingly decent action film.Even john carter was enjoyable .But this does look like one of those kinds aka earth under invasion by giant reptiles lets bring out the giant robots....no thought no complicated story lines jsut straight in the gut battle for survival in giant robots .

Most likely it,ll get panned by critics but i,ll still go watch it because its del toro and some of the actors i like too.

Looks like one of those terribly bad movies which are really entertaining. I'll watch it maybe.

Looks like it will be ridiculously fun! Pretty hyped for it myself. Total mind-fudge to hear GLaDOS helping humanity though! o.O I guess if the giant monsters win she'll have no test subjects left to make sweet, sweet science with.

Looks awesome, I loved Cloverfield. The whole "creature from the ocean" thing is just epic to me.

The name sounds like a porno though :P

Hellboy was also all sorts of cheesy, but that's part of the joy - you know what you're going to get out of this immediately.

I'm absolutely going to watch the hell out of this.

Why do I get the feeling that Warner Bros. had a meeting to decide what nerds like.

Exec 1: "They like Giant monsters"
    Exec 2: "Giant Robots"
    Exec 3: "GLaDOS"
    Exec 4: "Independence Day"
    Exec 5: "Guillermo del Toro"

It's like they are trying too hard, I bet it's going to either be the dumbest film in history right next to "Godzilla" With Matthew Broderick. Or ... nope it's being filed next to Godzilla.

To be honest... it looks like Cloverfield took a shit on Transformers 4. I'm actually pretty tired of these kinds of movies.

Don't know if I will watch it. Action movie filled with cheesy lines and huge explosions. It does look cool, but I like my movies clever or LOTR-style. Sadly only The Dark Knight trilogy seems to have taken the kind of idea the LOTR movies started, and it didn't get the oscars it deserved, making Hollywood go "meh" about it. Hopefully The Hobbit will get some sense into them, though the Academy Awards seems to be in love with some kind of weird political-kind-of movies?
Being critical is a burden which some people loves to bear.

It's Del Toro, that's really all I need to know to know I'll watch it.

So, monsters come from the ocean, we fight back with robots and everyone gets cake?
