Should America go metric?

I'dd like to see England getting the normal SI-units too, instead of feets, inches, stones and such.

I'm finally getting the hang of the USAs odd systems, but it has taken a while, and i really wouldn't miss it ever if they turned to normal SI-units.

The picture supports my opinion, of course it is biased. If you have a brain, you are still capable of forming your own opinion whether that picture exists or not. Not a big deal.

People getting defensive and saying stuff like "WE GOT TO MARZ FIRST", as if no other country has made scientific advances, and that landing a probe on a planet we will never make it to before destroying ourselves is somehow a greater achievement than any other.

Japan achieved teleportation of photons (which will likely be a precursor for quantum computing). Canada discovered insulin for treating diabetes. Every country has made huge advances, although not every country is so vocal about it.

While I think that going metric would be good in the long run, presently our country has much more pressing issues to worry about. Why waste time/money on converting to the metric system when we could be using those same resources on much more valuable endeavors. Maybe the United States will be able to worry about switching to the metric system when we're not struggling to recover from the worst economic situation since the Great Depression. Until then, go Imperial!

I know a lot of scientifical universities teach you the metric system. So you waste a lot of time converting from your own system to metric, making room for errors, that can be pretty costly.
But can understand, that you might want to fix your economy first

While I live in Ohio, I'm a german (permanent resident). I would prefer the metric system, not because I can't handle the imperial, but because I know both, use or used both and think metric is simply better. It makes more sense in general.

Of course we should. Its kinda dumb we don't. Our system is retarded and arbitrary. 1 = 5280 = 12? That's a pain in the ass. Metric meanwhile is all 10s.

And it goes for temperature too. Farenheit is based a random solution of salts. Celsius is something as common as the boiling point and freezing point of water.

As for dates, our military already does that. We write our dates 12 Dec 2012. Its the civilian side that does the whole Dec 12, 2012.

I don't think that the measurements for sports would change, it would just be something that no one really knows why it's still there.

As an American, I'd say heck yes, switch to metric. Our damned system makes no sense, and most professions require metric anyway, so why keep teaching people anything else?
