Interesting. I never knew this existed. Gonna try this out next raid, hopefully no more frantic swapping back and forth trying to raise/lower talkers only to have them stop speaking the moment I tab out of WoW and resume speaking the moment I tab back in (and, of course, remain completely silent when I ask the person who just spoke to speak again).
