Easy rebute to that sort of nonsense.

Video games didn't exist even 50 years ago. Humans have been extremely violent by nature for as far back as we can go.

Therefore, Video games cannot possibly be responsible for something that happened beforehand. Its like blaming someone for a murder before they are even born - its utterly stupid.

If anything, Video games seem to make people less violent as they get their anger and frustration out during gameplay.

The only thing that can be said in regards to violence and video games is that they are violent because we as humans enjoy violence.

The funny thing is that the traditional media like the newspaper never blame themselves, despite they love to publicise very detailed
information about real murder/massacres that can be used as a guide and a source for "inspiration" Then we have the old cliche that killers methodical collect newspaper cut-out of there own crime.

In the old Greek, a man wanted a place in the history, so he did commit the most terrible crimes, but all the scholars of the time did say, we do not want to be part of this so we swear to never write about who he was or what he did, only that we was united about not to write about him. I do not know if it is true or only philosophy.

I support the freedom of the press, but sometime I relay want the press to take there responsibility and not cuddle in all the bloody details and the murders wicked "political message" the time in the spotlight is one of the prime motives of the killer.

Yes violence video game have a impact on the mind, and might trigger a mental ill person, but so can everything else.

Pretty much this. In all honesty, if I couldn't release stress by obliterating computer generated pixels in a safe and healthy manner, I probably wouldn't be as non-violent as I am.

Worst thing is that whenever a murder is commited by a gamer or a fan of rap or metal music, the media is all over it.

And completely ignore the much more common violent crimes of the highly religious.

Apperently fearmongers need that scapegoat, otherwise they can't get as much attention (i.e. money) from a terrified audience.

No the worst thing is that when CEO's cut corners which lead to thousands of deaths, we don't attack and call for bans on greed.

As I've said before, I've been playing games of all types since I was 3 and I'm 27 now. You don't see me going out and shooting people. The media blames whoever or whatever they can. It's all bullshit.

I think there isnt much point to this thread, as everyone here is a gamer, and we can all agree that blaming games is not a rational defense for heinious acts of murder.

That said though, it is not easy to evaluate ones interests, if one sees no wrong in what they enjoy, case and point, gladiatoral arenas of rome

i would be willing to accept the claim that violent video games triggers violent behavior if the whole of human history was devoid of nutbags going round killing people till the first pong game was put together. Did hitler play GTA? did jack the ripper play saints row? ghengis khan a CoD player? Since the dawn of time there have been asshats out there who are just wired differently to normal people and go on killing sprees. Its not anything new and trying to blame video games which have only really been around the last 20 years (and thats being generous) is a bit rediculous tbh.
Have you ever stepped on a lego piece while barefoot?

Can you recall that exquisitely piercing and utterly unforgettable pedal agony? Now imagine what would happen if you were to step on between 10 and 25 angry, well armed lego pieces which are all acting in brutal concert, and tell me how that would go for you.

Plus they have magic and sharp objects.

Perfect example of why "community" forums are poisonous to the health of a development team. These developers are wasting hundreds of hours trying to stem the tide of incessant bitchery that would never, ever abate so long as these entitled, unfortunate human beings don't get their way.

...and the media will ALWAYS, at some point, show that same ancient archived footage of the original Mortal Kombat with Sub-Zero pulling off somebody's head...

I've grown numb to it... the topic Video Game violence is now just an easy news-media hot-topic and for people wanting to be "edgy" in order to get hits on their blogs.

I believe the media showing 24/7 news updates about college age kids murdering schoolchildren does more psychological damage than Video Game violence. I can't tell you how many facebook posts I read screaming "I hate this world.. it's just another sign of the apocalypse after what this guy did". Prior to that, we were talking about enjoying Skyrim and other video games and having fun. :P

Sadly I can and have... one in particular is my brother, who's an Arizona State Penitentiary officer. He has a VERY vocal opinion about Grand Theft Auto....
