Yes - I should only have to get rep one time
No - I like leveling rep on each character
Indifferent - People would still complain
That's actually a bad example, because when Paragon levels were introduced, the characters lost much of their switching capability. The Diablo 3 achievement system is a very good example of what I feel WoW should evolve into. To be able to feel free enough to change classes and gear them up/raid/pvp/spend time on them on a whim without the fear of losing any achieved progression in the past would be a very healthy thing for the game. Especially if your main is always kicked and kept down like us Shaman usually are :P hehe
And in essence, asking reps to be account-wide is like asking that for all your 5 characters, the Paragon level should be equal to the maximum Paragon level of those 5. Prolly won't happen.
To OP: No, I don't think reps should be account-wide. If everything is account-wide, there is no point to level and play alts. I think that the current 2x rep catch-up system works pretty nicely, and with a few tweaks, it can roll just great.
However, I think that two further adjustments would be cool:
*- Professions leveled on alts need to be accessible from every character on that realm/faction. It is deeply annoying to mail stuff from one alt to another for crafting. This is a convenience issue.
*- For people who want to change their main, a web form on a 6 month CD should allow them to swap reps between their old and their new main.
Current reputation system is totally fine.
Reputation is part of your leveling, of your character progression in the world. You get 100% rep bonus for important reputations of current content, but there is no reason to make it free.
If its about gear, with 100% rep bonus you will be revered with most factions just by questing while you level.
What would be next? Having to do quests only on one character? leveling on one characater and getting rest maxed too?
Raiding with one toon and getting loot for alts too via the mail if you won on main?
Ultimately this will end in the whine mantra 'Boohoo, there's nothing to do...'
Leave it as it is, it's not too bad now.
I voted yes, but after thought I would revote no.
The issue is simply how much is gated behind the mop reps, they simply need to change the rewards reps give to be in line with what players who enjoy dailies want. As opposed to rewards that everyone wants.
As I mentioned in my OP edit, this is more about ALL faction rep and less about current rep grinding for gear. I don't mind the dailies since I am only after certain recipes and mounts.
