    i5 2500k overclock

So I'm trying to overclock my i5 2500k to 4.5 GHz but it will only allow me to set the CPU clock ratio between 16 and 37. Would this be because I'm missing something or would it be my motherboard limiting it, or something else?

Motherboard is a Gigabyte PH67-UD3-B3, BIOS is up to date. Was following this guide because I am clueless.

    Cheers.

H67 is a chipset that does not allow overclocking.

Your H67 Motherboard does not support overclocking above the turbo boost, which is 3.7GHZ in this case. You need a P68, Z68 or a Z77 board in order to overclock past the booster.

You won't benefit from overclocking unless:

    * You are RAM-capped and running out of perf. in video / photo / model - editing
    * You have GTX 690 3-way SLI

There is no point in OC.. 2500k is not a bottleneck for games.

This post was not helpful and misinformed. Overclocking does improve performance, even in games that are not CPU intensive, and it is not possible to have 3-way SLI with any combination of GTX 690. You could run one of them for single card SLI, or two for quad.

OP did not ask if he should. He asked for help doing it.

This could not be more wrong

    Oh, except for...

    WoW is CPU-bound.
Rift in high-population areas is CPU-bound.
Skyrim takes benefit from more CPU power.
Movie rendering/editing programs love CPU power.
BF3 takes benefit from more CPU power.
    GW2. SWTOR. Any RTS game.

    Just about everything.

    Need I name more specifics?
